Can Civ 4 or 5 be played day to day without having to keep PC/Game on?

I would like to start playing this game, but I do not have alot of time every day to dedicate to a game. Can a Civ 4 or Civ 5 multiplayer session be played a few turns each day, without having to keep my computer on and the game loaded?

I remember my buddy who plays Civ 3 alot having to keep his laptop on and he would just shut the lid, but I cannot keep my computer on all the time... Can we run games between say the 2 of us, and just load up the game each day to take a few turns?

And I don't know this community, but for and possible trolls that are going to try and tell me how I should run my computer, go elsewhere pls. When I use it I turn it on, and when I am done my computer is shut off...

Also, he is playing Civ 4 now, and I know he will play 5 when it comes out, so either edition (Civ 4 or 5) would be fine with me!

In Civ4, you can save a multiplayer game and continue later, no problem. Not sure about Civ 5 of course, but probably.
