I only find threads from early days of civ6, when it comes to capturing a Great Person from the AI.

In my games AI doesn't like Art Museums, but are hording Great Artist, so AI have no place to use them... And when the Civ goes under, they are lost.

Have anyone looked into lately if a mod can re-create a Great Person when captured, and not just send it back to AI capital? Or trade for a Great Person?

I don't exactly know how it works, but I don't have the impression the great people are lost. At least for AI. Indeed, I was playing Rme and attacked Greece who had many Great writer near their cities, and when I "attacked" a Great People with my units, the great people atomatically came back in one of Greek's cities ...

Great People base unit-types all have the following in their definition in table <Units>
Code:
CanCapture="False" CanRetreatWhenCaptured="True"
I have never attempted to see what happens if these boolean values are changed by a mod -- whether the game freaks out, or allows capture of the Great People unit, or simply ignores the changes.

Individual Great Persons once created cannot be re-created. Once they are expended or otherwise removed from the game they are gone forever. Gryfalcon was referring to the fact that when a civilization is killed off, any Great People they own at that time go *poof*.
