OK, I'm not a Civ or computer expert, and I read some of these messages with amazement on how smart some of you folks are and how dumb I am! I do love Civ and play for my amusement. I like huge worlds and 4-5 opponents and roll over them without having to spend too much mental energy. I use "Americans" as it is easier to keep up with the city names. I don't like their color and wish I could swap it with some other (maybe Romans). I suspect this can be done with the editor, but that program seems beyond my limited computer knowledge. Can anyone guide me through that process in an understandable way? Thanks for your time.

Yes, you can.

Open the Editor, Click on Scenarios, and Custom Rules. There will be a pop-up about changing the rules.

Once the custom rules are turned on, you will see a drop down box 'turn on' on the right third of the menu bar. Click on the drop down, and select Civilzations. Another dialog box will open up, and on the top part you will see two rows of tabs. Just under the tabs, you will see a drop down box that says "A Barbarian Chiefdom". Go to American, and on the bottom of the page you will see a box that says "Team Colors". You can select the colors here. Be careful, as some colors are close to others, and it can make them difficult to keep track off. Espcially if you're at war with that particular civ. Best bet would be to pick your rivals before starting the next game, and changing their colors in the editor too.

You'll have to save this as a scenario, then load the scenario at the main menu. The rest of the game will be the same, except now you'll have custom civ colors.

I usually change the colors of Civs like that. I think some of them got completly wrong original color, but thats why we got the Editor:goodjob:

The worst part is when you play 24 civs and above, you will get civs with the same colors... So when you look at the map on the bottom-left of the screen, you think that you have more land than you actually have... Then when the AI attacks you... you go:
"why on earth are my own units attacking me!?" :crazyeye:
;)

Cyan tends to be the generic color for the US in all the games
