Hello, I'm thinking of buying Civilization 5 (Finally. After my whole Darius speaking Persian rant. I still think the leaders should be speaking Persian, due to the nation speaking Persian more so than Aramaic in its time.)

ANYWAYS!

I really want to buy the disc-based version from Amazon. If I do so, is there a way I can still download the free and paid DLCs?

So for example, Babylonia, Korea, Denmark, maps, etc? Would I download it from the Firaxis site? Through the game?

I know if you order it from Steam, you can download all those through steam as well.

But what if you have the disc? Thanks ! :)

Yes, when you install you will be prompted to install and register on STEAM (which handles the DLCs and patching).

Steam handles everything once you have the CD, no matter where you got the game originally. Just go to the steam store and buy the DLC.

BTW, if the leader of Perisa was Cyrus, I'd agree, but it really makes sense for Darius. This was a well-thought out decision (that probably was more difficult to pull off).

Do you think if they add any more leaders they will change the language though? I can't see them hiring someone to speak Farsi just in case they put Khomeini or someone in the game.

I don't think they'll add more leaders to already existing Civs.

The best you could hope for is adding something like the Sassanians, but I don't think they'll do that either. You have to keep in mind that finding a natural Iranian speaker is far, far easier than finding a natural speaker of Aramaic. That should give you an idea that they were doing this in order to be more accurate (at a minimum, ancient Aramaic is more accurate than modern Iranian).

If someone speaks Iranian, record audio files for a leader of your choice. Then see if we can make a full mod for it (there are plenty of talented fan modders).

If they'd put Khomeini in then they'd use somebody speaking Farsi, of course, but to be honest I don't think Iran will make it in as a civ.
And if you'd mean for Persia it would be a bit strange, Iran isn't the same as Persia (which is actually the Achaemenid Empire), in that case Cyrus and Xerxes would stand a bigger chance. Besides they probably won't use multiple leaders.

Iran IS the same as Persia. It's been the same nation/country for the past 2600 years. Persia changed its name into Iran after World War One. And the reason for that is because Persians never called it "Persia". They've called it "Iran". It was the west that called it Parsa or Persia.

Same exact country. You don't see people saying "Deutschland and Germany are different countries".

This has been discussed to death, so I apologize for continuing it. Here's a couple things to keep in mind. Yes, it's the same people and a shared heritage. The language has evolved considerably since then. It's similar to saying Rome and Italy are the same.

Still, the Civ in Civ5 represents the Achaemenids. The Parthians, Sassanians, Saffavids, and modern Iran are separate. You aren't going to get Pope Alexander II or Lorenzo dei Medici as leader of Rome. You aren't going to get a modern Greek leader for Greece. Likewise, a modern Iranian leader won't be in a "Persian" Civ that has Darius, Immortals, and Satrap Courts.

Rome and Italy cannot be compared to Persia and Iran.

You're talking city-states with actual empire to nation-state. Achaemenid was just the family in power. Achaemenid, Ashkanian (Sassanian), Qajar, Pahlavi, Zand, these are all just royal families that were in power at a certain point in Iran's history. Now Iran is an Islamic Republic and no longer have "royal" families.

It doesn't mean Iran was never Iran. You're confusing the names Persia and Iran. It's the exact same thing. Just because the West called it Persia at one point doesn't mean it was never Iran.
