Hey, everyone I was just wondering if i could mount civ 4 on my computer. I have civ III, and that seems to work fine, except i noticed that i run a little short of civ IV's minimal requirments for CPU. I belive 1.2 Ghz is listed as the minimum, and i'm currently running on 454 Mhz ( ). So is there a mild chance that the game will run decently, or will it just be godly slow? I was really hoping to get the game, and unfortunately i'm not in the position to get a new computer now. Thanks in advance.

I've a P4 2.8Ghz w 512MB ram, GeForceMX440 64MB and the game is so laggy to be unplayable...it's lagged also the mouse cursor in the main menu!!!

Dont try that with your machine (< 500MHZ cpu!!! ) !!!

@ 80% you cannot start the game
@ 100% the game will be so slow that the time will pass in real time before crashing after two turns

I'm not exaggerating!!! Dont waste your money especially in your situation !

^^ There is a deeper issue regarding your performace; it shouldn't be running that bad, esp. in the menu!!!

As for the threat starter, sorry, it would have too be a cold day in hell before Civ 4 would run on that machine.

U could always try Civ 3 or something!

I had a P4 2.0Ghz with 512MB RAM and Geforce 2 with 32MB. Was indeed unplayable (intro movies did hardly play at all, slow response of mouse and keyboard)... Added another 512MB RAM... Didn't help. Upgraded to Geforce 6600GT with 128MB... That DID help! Everything runs perfectly smooth now! :) :) :) Intro movies run without a single problem and the interface responds immediately.. Adding the RAM wasn't necessary I think, civ4 doesn't use it all anyway (maybe it does later in the game).

[EDIT] Forgot to add: Upgrading my video card introduced a lot of crashing [/EDIT]

So probably your video card is the bottleneck here!

To Tommaso: if you are a real Civ fan you may try, if not yet, the Conquests espansion (you should find the Civ3 complete edition).
A real reloading of a great game.

I will upgrade my card soon (to be honest I've this card because I upgraded another computer with a FX5200 or 5600...so I disabled the horrible integrated IGP on the current main board with the old mx440 ).
The mx440 was not incredible even when it was released but it should be enough for games like this ( "Pirates!" is perfect for example )

Well, thanks for the help guys, i guess i will wait till i can get a better computer. I hope this will happen before civ 5 comes out (who knows Maybe i'll win the lottery). I do have the Civ3 complete edition so i guess i will stick with that for now.
