Can i get other civs to help when attacked?

Sorry if this is obvious but first time poster and couldn't find an answer

Playing Spain on the real world Map, Have been attacked by Greece and am looking for allies to work with me?

Greece seem to have been denounced by everyone but i cant see a way in diplomacy to get allies/ friends to help in my defence.

Joint war would allow me to start a war on a new nation but is there a way to ask friendly nations to join the fight?

is this something that can only be set up through defensive pact before the attack was made?

It would be nice but there is no way currently.
There seems to be a "request Assistance" option in the XML but weighted so badly a civ would never help even if it was an option on the diplomacy screen.
You have got all the rules right, joint war them first but once war underway you are in your own unless they decide to join in.
Defensive pacts were not easy to get before the last patch and currently its very hard to even get an alliance to allow a defensive pact.

Np, Spain has some challenges at the start on that map but is fairly defensible with a few troops early

I do hope they add this in an expansion, and I believe they will. For now we are stuck with things as is. Because I'm really hoping they beef up diplomacy in the first expansion (or whenever they decide to implement a U.N. type feature).
