Can somebody explain to me why I'm called 'Caucasian'?

Funnily enough Iranians and related Iranic people think they are Aryan as well. In fact the word Iran is derived from their old name 'Aryan'.
And that appleation was popularised in the west already in the 1840's by the historians of religion Ernest Renan (Paris) and Friedrich Max Müller (initially Tübingen, then Oxford).

Müller talked incessantly about the British and the Indians as fellow-Aryans, in an attempt to foster some kind of sense of brotherhood between colonisers and colonoised in India. (The people he had it in for were the Jews instead.)

Yes there are even aryans in India, Pakistan and china. But they are a very small and diluted ethnic group. But yes if one of the few blond blue eyed aryans are living in the USA they should be called aryan.

today i think they derive this conclusion based on language. farsi (persian) is an indo-european language, despite the script.

Don't get me started on the stupid classifications there are on US forms.

It's basically a mess, mixing PC names for skin color (caucasian), wrong and PC names for geographical areas (hispanic), weird and wrong PC names (African-American), and so on.

I remember when I was in Texas, I had to check "Anglo-saxon". Yeah right.

Just get rid of it all. Cos the guy from Spain is Hispanic but actually he should check Caucasian, the guy from Morocco is not an African-American, and so on...

This just shows you can't have humans classified that easily.

Do you call yourself caucasian?

No. But sometimes I have no choice when filling out forms. As for my ethnic background, in terms of origin I'm actually bit more than 3/8 German as I previously said, but some of them left Germany hundreds of years ago, so it starts to get complicated. All in all, probably about 80% of my ancesrtry is from the 'Greater Germany' region. And the only thing Germany has to do w/ the Caucasus, is a futile campaign under asinine leadership in 1942.

I don't like the term 'white', either. I don't have much/any blood from Scandinavia - as far as I know. Those, along the Arctic circle from Iceland to the Urals, are the only ones I consider to be 'white', plus maybe the ones with little melanin in places like the British Isles.

Whatever. I'm an American, of north-central European descent. If you want to use a geographic feature, don't use some mountain region over a thousand miles away, instead the Rhine River makes more sense. So, from now on I'm a Rhinelander. I'm just going to cross out whatever else is on the form, and write that. :p

If you were born in America, you can check all forms "Native American" since you're native to this land.

or all these government issued sheets can go to hell, you can cehck "other" every time and fill in "white guy from the suburbs".

And if you actually live in Texas, the Latinos/Mexicans/Hispanics will refer to you as an 'Anglo'.

Anyway, I think we can have an understanding here. Now, when I say, "I'm not a Yankee" - you'll know what I mean. Just as you're not an 'Anglo'. One of my ancestors was born in Mississippi in the very early 1800s -same first name as me- and he married a German (immigrant) wife. So, I have plenty of roots in 'Dixieland' as well. I don't have a d@mned thing in common with 'Yanks', in fact I can't stand 'em.

So, I'm not a Yank, and I'm not Caucasian. I'm glad we got that straight. :) Come to think of it, I'm a little bit of a lot of different things/cultures. Maybe I really am I a U.S.A.-ian. That's the only thing that really matters, I guess. People move around too much. You can't sit there and try to apply labels.

Now all I need to do, is find a nice sexy Brazilian wife w/ an incredibly complicated ancestral background, and my kids will be so bewildered, they won't even bother concerning themselves with the whole issue.

If you were born in America, you can check all forms "Native American" since you're native to this land.

Yeah plus my mother's mother's mother's mother (great-great-grandmother, straight up the maternal line) was 100% Cherokee, and she was 'assimilated' into our family... making me 1/16th (typical of most American families that have spent at least 2-3 generations here, I suspect). So, there would be some truth to that claim.

Plus I watched the movie Gangs of New York again recently, and if Bill could call himself a 'Native American', heck I can too. :p

And what about those Irish that were getting off the boat during the Potato famine, whom he was giving a hard time during the ACW? I guess they're 'Native Americans' now, afterall?

Blast, it's too complicated. All I know is, I have nothing to do w/ those former Soviet Republics in between Iran and Russia...

I was quite sincere. I -am- a native American. Born and bred, this is my land as much as it is any other human over the last 15,000 years that was born here. I may not be an aboriginal American, but I'm sure a native.

Alternatively, you could just scratch out "caucasian" and scribble "honkey" in its place if you like. :)

I'll just go with; "man which bringeth superior immune system & firepower".

Indo-european was used for the exact same thing well before "Aryan" became popular. It's just a handy label describing the geographical extension of this "family" of languages.
"Aryan" worked better for a certain kind of poetic showmanship though. Something Renan, Müller, Gobineau etc. were very adept at.

An Aryan is a Persian in my book. That's what they call themselves. And somehow if you twist it around a bit, you get the name 'Iran', which means land of Aryans. I think the Nazis just liked the self-superiority complex, and copied it for themselves, without bothering to even change the name/term.

But I guess if I'm 'Caucasian', that's pretty much right there next to Iran, so, I might as well be an Aryan as well. But since I'm mostly actually of Germanic origin I must insist on being called 'Herrenvolk', thank you very much.

Herrenvolk Amerikaner. Hey, I like the sound of that. I suddenly get the urge to start chanting at the top of my lungs...

That is about right I think. The Iranians have been calling themselves Aryan for more than 2500 years. wiki I don't think that the concept of aryan for the Iranians is invested with any herrenvolk type mentality. Also I think the idea of aryans being blond/blue eyed is also part of nazi mythological plaigarism.

Very few people in Iran today are aryan. There are only a couple thousand true aryans (100% pure). Persians aren't aryan.

What about the news anchor Rudi Bakhtiar? Is she pure Aryan? I always had a little bit of a crush on her. I suspect she has a very high degree of sexual powers. Plus she looks kinda exotic. Anyway if she's Aryan, then Sieg Heil!

They are more aryan than you are uber-herr aldagreat. The blue eyed/blond conception of aryan is a demented nazi fiction.
