This will only happen early in the game. After a certain point, they won't be ressurected, though I'm not sure what that point is.

turnig on the respawnAIplayers will mean that any computer civs that are destroyed early in the game are recreated somewhere else. this option makes sure that the game will last longer, at least into the middle age.

Actually, no and no.

1 - You can toggle respawn on/off during the game setup.
2 - Civs will respawn if there is a 5x5 clear space anywhere in the game, even in the modern era. Soren Johnson mentioned this somewhere.

Huh? once I had respawn on, it was a 1 on 1, me vs Aztecs. I destroyed the aztecs, and then I won. I just got into the middle ages. The AI did not respawn. There were plenty of space left, because I only settled about 1/3 of my very large continent.

i think it only works with multiple civs...

I can't even start to imagine why some people like to enable the respawn option. There's nothing more infuriating that suddenly realizing people have colonized part of what you considered YOUR kingdom.

whats even more annoying is that its late in the game... ur in a democracy and the populace is sick of wars, wearyness is rife... somewhere out in the giant map is one goddamn city that refuses your envoy, crippling your emipire!

And that's the reason you should be very careful with wars in democracy.
