Can you destroy an enemy capital in this game?

Hi!

I was wondering if theres now a way to destroy an enemies capital in this game.

Would it help to change the victory options somehow, or is there a mod, or did the Patch change something in that area?

Nope, you can't raze any city that was an original capital city of a Civ. That includes City States. I even remember seeing one of the devs (might have even been Shafer, but I don't recall) saying "Get over it" when someone asked why they couldn't.

Irritating.

P.S. At least, not in vanilla, I don't know if a mod will let you or not.
 
They way it should've been programmed is if 'Domination' victory condition is unchecked you can, else you can't... Sometimes I wonder if they flowchart their logic (oops... showing my age again)

It affects Diplo victory as well.
 
It'd be baller if you could raze capitals with the condition that the country's 2nd city becomes the new "official" capital damn I'm so brilliant sometimes

You think you're brilliant, check out this idea: What if there were a building you could build that moved your capital, or made a new capital when the old one was razed?

Wouldn't that be amazing? You could call it a "Palace" or something.
 
non-razing capitals/cs feels like a gamey copout

I can see why they did it though, so you always have the liberate CS option (diplomatic victory) and to stop any gamey capture and raze capital plays (domination victory)

just wish they thought of a nicer way to handle it instead of magic cannot raze - maybe have some sort of capital/cs ruin that prevents building new cities too close and allows rebuilding... wood be cool to rebuild capital on ruins of former greatness
 
Maybe they could change it to destroy/take over a certain percentage of their cities (highest number so it wouldn't keep going down) Or change it to first 5 or so cities?
