Can you play Mods in Civ V MP?

My friends and I finally decided to give Civ V a try yesterday, but were unable to get a mod loaded and ended up playing Vanilla Civ V. Quick research seemed to indicate its not set up to play mods in MP. Is this true? Did I waste my $13 this weekend? Vanilla is way too linear, predictable and able to be played by formulas.

We've been playing Civ IV heavily modded to be challenging (read really hard), variable and done so you have to think out your options.

If you can't play mods on Civ V, we'll mess with it once in a while for a change and go back and remake our mod to a more final form and just keep on with Civ IV. If you can play mods, how do you do it?

Thank you for any help with this!

I was hoping someone knows if you can play a modded version of Civ V with your friends? And how to do so, if you can?

Thanks.

Is there supposed to be a plan to allow MP mods?

Can we mod the game files and play private games with each other?

I guess it's back to modding Civ IV to make the "Mod you love to hate"! My best friend is working on it.... :)

Isn't it so that there's no file check in Civ 5. And if everyone has the same XML's there won't be OOS's?
In that way some rudimentary modding is possible in multiplayer, right?

You can do some .ini-hacks, but htat's not really a "mod".

I guess that's a better long answer :-p

When we tried to load a mod, there is no way to do so in MP, there is no option. Could you modify the game file, or would Steam not play it?

It's ok, I'm happy to have my good friend halfway through a new mod for Civ IV.

Not only .ini-hacks, but changing values in the XML-files too.
I haven't tried it myself, but that's what I heard.
As long as the changes in the XML-files are the same with all players it should work (but I'm not sure).
