i lost my disc 1 and i wanted to know if you can play without it. i definitely don't want to spend another $50 on just 1 disc.

Please help, i need to feed my civ 4 addiction.

all right, so the games been out for a day and you say you've already lost the disk, and then go asking for illegals cracks on a fan forum....

Brilliant..

Don't automatically assume people are using "illegal cracks".

I own the original discs, but I also have been thinking of getting a duplicate of the disc 1. As a researcher sometimes I have to stay in my lab till midnight to wait for running an experiment, and there's so much time I can't just keep doing reading. I really want to have an extra disc 1 at my lab to save the trouble from carrying it back and fro. CD discs are more fragile than one would like to believe.

You'll have to find your disc, or buy a new one.

Please note that any talk of piracy, including NoCD cracks, is against forum rules and won't be tolerated.

Hey, I can feel for you! I'm also a researcher and have CivIV on my (private) notebook at work for those times where I have to wait two hours for the end of an experiment or have to do some mindless repetitive step every 20 minutes.

I also don't feel like carrying around my CivIV disc with me all the time.

Greetings,

Rince

I carry mine around with me pretty everywhere, and it's completely fine - because I store it *in* the DVD drive of my laptop. It only comes out in the office to use it on the PC there.

I always tought using those nocd thingys are allowed if you own the original game. but to go back to the topic, i know how you feel, i had to go and buy civ3 again ( and new cd rom drive ) when the gamecd blew in pieces once i put it in and started playing. I think i jumed like 3 meters in the air when that happened :)

While some people contend that using a NoCD patch is ok when you own the game, as far as we're concerned here at CFC NoCD patches are illegal.

I wish games in general didn't require you to use the cd once you installed the game, as proof of ownership. I hate having to dig through all of my game cds all the time.

But no, there is no legal way for you to play Civ4 without your Disc 1 in there. And this forum's mods take a very dim view of people asking for hacks.

Losing things comes with a price tag. Period. Anything else is being irresponsible and unaccountable. I mean after all, you were the one that lost it.

This new generation that truly believs they are entitled to be the exception to every rule just continues to floor me on a regular basis.

Go buy another copy. If you can't afford it, then get a job, make the money, and THEN go buy it.

Sheesh.

Sheesh.

This would be true if you owned the game. However, you are not purchasing a copy of their game, what you purchase is a license to execute a copy of their game (or so the claim goes). Therefore, you have a right to execute a copy of those bits, regardless of how you obtain those bits.

Licensing debate aside, a lot of software companies offer free (or free + shipping) replacement of worn out CDs if you send in proof of purchase. (front page of the manual, receipt, or something). I'd give Firaxis a call and ask if they can help you on this.

And think of how lost this new generation would be if not for wise souls such as yourself to make meaningless generalizations against them.

Agreed. I pay for my software and I get really tired of being inconvenienced and being treated like a crimanal.

.

He LOST the disc. It did not wear out.

ALSO, things wear out. I believe it is called: entropy. Last car I has wore out. HONDA did not replace it, nor did I expect them to.

Who do I see about getting body replacement parts for this aging human body I have?

My Civ4 was only one CD (original not Warlords)?

you have a DVD, not a CD.

To the OP: Contact Firaxis. If you can prove you got the game legally (which is pretty easy to do), most companies will send you a CD (although it may cost a bit, it's less than replacing the whole game).
