Can You Run it?

Don't need this site to tell me I can't run it. IV already runs rather slowly on my computer and V probably won't run at all. I need a better graphics card and I'm too poor to get one.

hey guys will my rig run it? sorry i dont really understand modern pc's with all this duo quad stuff etc. I know my ram , gfx card are fine but what about this cpu?

intel r core tm 2 duo cpu e6750 @2.66ghz.

i tried 'can i run it' and it says not, although im a little sceptical about that site as it says i cant run napolean total war which it can run smoothly when i play it.

thanks in advance

Well Zalcron you do have Core 2 Duo processor with well over 1.8 Ghz wich is the minimum, so yes you are able to run it for sure. But how well you are able to run it remains as mystery wich nobody cannot answer yet.

My computer passes minimum on all counts. :)

Recommended, however, it fails in two categories...

RAM
Recommended: 4 GB
You Have: 3.0 GB

Video Card
Recommended: 512 MB ATI Radeon HD 4800 series or better, 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9800 series or better
You Have: GeForce 9500 GT

Features: Recommended attributes of your Video Card
-------------------------Required You Have
  • Video RAM------------512 MB 1.7 GB
  • Hardware T&L------------Yes Yes
  • Pixel Shader version-------4.0 4.0
  • Vertex Shader version-----4.0 4.0

For the video card, I pass on all of the features, but it looks like it doesn't like the actual card I have. Oh well... in any case, I should be fine.

I'm not sure why this site is telling me I have DX 10 when I have DX 11. It seems a bit confused about my graphics card in general. No big deal though. I filled up the entire bar.

I have an AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor @ 3.6ghz with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 1gb RAM + 6gb RAM. I just scrapped over the minimum on this test. It's the processor thats bringing me down, but I've read lots of places that suggest a faster clocked dual core is just as good if not better than a slower quad. Will just have to wait and see I suppose.

maybe in the past. it all depends on if the developers wrote the game to use just 2 cores or 4 or more.

obviously since civ 5 reccomends a quad core it was wrote to use at least 4 cores meaning that you would see improvement from 2-4 cores.

personally i have a triple core so im a tweenie atm LOL. in the case of civ 4 id say that a quad core would be a lot better than a dual core. + now the lowest clocked quad core is probably going to be 2.4-2.6 gig anyways.

also plz anyone having comp questions pm me e-mail me or however u can contact me. my acc is drew.theduck(at)hotmail(dot)com

i have a degree in computers. work for geek squad. and am a computer enthusiast. build my own computers etc etc.

Can my computer run it!?

MUAHAHAHAHA!

My beast of a machine won't have to strain itself even a tenth of its capacity. :smug:

It'll shrug right through the game on maxed settings.

i wonder how well the machines that just meet the min requirements will run civ

Yes I can run it, thank you for asking. :)

According to the site I'm about 1/3 of the way above Minimum. I can't run on the Recommended specs supposedly because my 2.3 GB GeForce 8800 GTS isn't up to snuff.

I'm not too worried. :D

What card do you have?

As someone once told me, when I talked about this site, is keep in mind, most time, failures are graphic cards, and coincidently, they sell graphic cards, or give you a link where you can buy one.

I meet the minimum requirements but not the max. I am hoping the demo will be like the game and that will tell me how the game will run. Don't worry to much about your specs right now until you have tried the demo and read other peoples comments on how the game runs.

Rememeber Civ IV, even though people met the max specs, they still couldn't run the game till patch 2 or 3 came out before the game was playable for most people.

So play demo, read comments before you buy. That is all we can do. So we might have to wait an extra week after release day, but it can save us the aggrivation on trying to get Civ V to run.

HD Radeon 5770 1GB.

Although the site says I have...

ATI display adapter (0x68B8)

But yeah, I'm positive I have DX11, not DX10 like it's telling me.
Have you updated your drivers recently? That could be causing the issue.

About CPU Speed:

Wanted to clear this up for people. In all likely-hood, CPU speed will not determine how well your PC runs the game unless it is very outdated. How well the game runs is determined by your GPU (video card) in almost all modern games. CPU will determine how long the AI's turn takes, but not how well the game runs.

5770 has DX11. Do you have windows vista? If so, there is some windows update you need for DX11.

^I have windows 7, 64 bit.

That's bizarre. I can only imagine that the website is broken somehow. Go to run, type dxdiag, and it should say at the bottom of the first tab what DX version you have.

Well, for most of us civfanatics, THAT is the most important thing, and is meant when describing how well the game is running.
You can dial the graphical setting down if necessary, but there is no "minimum" setting for the AI :)
