So there's been 2 cases yesterday where I'm noticing the AI's been building a wonder in a city I'm about to take and they look sorta done. But is the construction site on the map accurate on how completed it is? As in, should I really be waiting for them to finish the wonder?
That's an interesting idea; is it possible to know if the wonder is just a few turns from complete? It seems to me that ai wonders look *almost* done for 10+ turns but I've never watched them closely.
I've had cases where I've delayed capturing a city with an almost done wonder (e.g. pyramids) - and waited - and waited - only to realise AI has changed the production from wonder to a unit.
It would also be great to see whether the AI is still producing a wonder or a district (like having something move or stop moving etc).
Maybe its my impression but this issue seems more pronounced since the last patch or two with both wonders and districts. Anyways I've done some testing:
Scenario 1: Leave Brazil (enemy alone), with my units 3-4 tiles away in the fog of war and with an occasional scout wandering around to observe. T40 ish capital finishes a holy site. Few turns later a settler pops out.
Scenario 2: Declare war on few turns before T40. Brazil does not finish holy site. A catapult (?) pops in the city under siege few turns later.
Scenario 3: Don't declare war but place the units around the borders few turns before T40. Waiting for the holy site and settler to declare. Get a warning to move my troops. Make a promise, but keep the troops in place. Brazil now finishes the holy site. Waiting for the settler. Still waiting for the settler. Brazil makes a swordsman instead. Keep waiting, another swordsman pops up.
Hope this helps.
I don't think you should be able to see the exact production, but it would be nice to reliably show, maybe, each 1/4 of the way through? So you'd see that Monty is 50% complete on the pyramids, it doesn't mean he has 110/220 complete, but he's somewhere between 50% and 75% complete on it. I noticed on the live stream the devs did check the AI's construction site and was trying to gauge progress from that, but would be nice to be able to see that without having to guess what pct of the animation is complete.

It is accurate in showing how near completion the wonder is and the graphics are continually updated as the AI invests production in it. I know because I use the graphics to determine whether I am ahead of them in a wonder race.
If they are at war they might change production to a unit instead but from experience if the Wonder is near completion they rarely do. Occupying production tiles however, does disrupt their production capacity and I usually do that if I'm desperate. The >50% bonus they get for wonder building is not to be scoffed at.
I like looking at the graphics to see wonder completion. Its very accurate. As for seeing what the AI is building? It would be nice to see what they are building if your diplomatic visibility is high enough.
