There should be some UU regaining hitpoints after winning a combat (breakfast time :D ), or giving some other bonus, maybe giving culture points to your capital. Or Food :D :D. You know, enslaving/sacrifing isnt very nice too. Or, in case of cannibalism add unhappiness to the defeated Units civ...
Another option, similar to ensalving, taking hostages and getting money for them.

 Now isn't that a delicious idea...

heard somethiing about liver... and chianti... :D
What about the Hannibal Unit. But not the one crossing the alps.

Some game concepts are more offensive than others. I agree that slavery can be considered offensive. Cannibalism? Blech. :(

Don't get me started about hypothetical Civ4 concepts like rape and sex slaves. Such things would push the ESRB rating out of 'Everyone' for sure, which is bad for Sid Meier, and bad for the Civilization series.

uhhh... no one talked about sex and such perversions . Just thought that there is much potential in the "speciall ability" trait. Like giving/stealing Money/Food/Production bonuses by winning battles with some units.
Or even replace some special units with special buildings.
I only know the Altar from the conquests, but i think this could be expanded.
The giving unhappiniess option should be considered with terror, as it is quite an issue in todays world. Its implemented by initate propaganda, but could be reassigned to some units.
BTW, dont know what ESRB is, maybe some youth protecting thing, but if cIV would get a 18+ rate cause of those issues, id be rather cool. Than maybe some Doom3 players would give it a try :D.

You are German clearly. The ESRB is a company based on rating games from EC(early childhood) to AO(adults only). That is how they do it in the US of A. But in Euorpe, everything seems to be rated with numbers. Be it movies or games.

In Germany (Europe?) its controlled by the USK, UnterhaltungsSoftwareSelbstKontrolle. And it goes in steps off 0+, 6+,12+,16+,18+ i think. Its a government institution watching movies, tv and all kinds of software. However, maybe like in US, i had never serious problems to get what i want. Only the cutting in TV is somehow tedious, esp when they take out the good splatter scenes, like recently in Hannibal when they cut the great showdown with Ray Liotta.
Im really afraid of the TV version of Kill Bill, maybe will last only 60min.

Regardless, cannabalism is extremely disgusting. I almost puked when I heard that news about the German Cannibal, and want to puke whever I even hear the word.

They should definitely have the other kind of enslavement in Civ IV too - as in, right now what a defeated unit turns into when it's enslaved is determined by its attacker. There should be an option where it's determined by the defender instead - or maybe even determined by both defender and attacker, and who's attacking and who's defending. That one would be the best, because it would be the most versatile by far.

Cannibals eat their enemies because they believe that they can gain the victims' strength. They do not heal themselve after eating (besides, unit damage is a simulation of the loss of troops in that unit, so you couldn't reproduce new units by eating). Adding food to a friendly city is not a good idea because of the way food is handled in the Civilization series. Hostages, however, do sound like good ideas. Maybe some state-sponsored terrorism?

the german cannibal was specially disturbing,i dont want to ruin your day,but i read in the paper that him and the victim together ate a certain part of the victime body before he was killed

that little detail made me wanna go to the news paper place and smack the editor up the head

i did not need or want to know that...

very very disturbing indeed

 Somehow your ranting about the disgustiness of the event isn't very convincing, when one happens to look at the bottom of your post and read that God told you to skin me alive ;)

No civilized culture uses cannibalism in a huge scale! Give that trait to the barbarians!!!! (read the americans)

Dog-Eating would probably be more economical!

i like the enslavement concept more then the cannibal one. there should be prison camps, for captured enemy, (obviously not all of them) but at the end of the war if camps are not liberated, the captured soldiers turn into workers. or if there are enough workers one should be able to liquidate the camps.
