Cannnot start the game

I bought CIV 4 for my best friend and tried to put it on her computer.

It said it installed OK, but, when I tried to run the game, the first 2 spash screens did not show, but, I could hear them, and clicked the mouse to continue. The screen where the music comes on and the graphic of the world with the clouds came up, but, no oprtions. I could see the mouse pointer, but, when I clicked it, sometimes it acted like it was working for a few moments, others it did not. It just stayed on that screen and played the intro music over and over.

I tried to call Tech Support, but, after 45 minutes and calling back numurous times(It times out after about 5 or 10 min of waiting.) I gave up.

Any thoughts?

From a quick glance, your processor is a bit on the low side - theAthlon 1800 runs at 1.4GHZ...though they say it is as fast as an Intel 2 GHZ...I have an Athlon 2400 (2 GHZ) and the game really works it out. But I beleive yours is in mimimum specs so the game should run.

Also, both your video and sound drivers are at least a year old...(2 for the sound) ...may want to update them.

Everything else looks up to spec...did you install the DirectX from the Game CD, it has files that the MS official release does not have.

You may want to read through the Bug and Tech support forums here...a lot of folks with 5500 nVidia cards have found some solutions to similiar problems. Sorry I can't be of more than general help - I have an ATI card and am having a time keeping up with potential solutions to my issues, and have not really gotten a handle on the nvidia issues.

If that doesn't work, do scandisk (CHKDSK /F) then defrag your system (perfect disk is good) reinstall the game (do another defrag if you want) then run the game, i know with black and white you need to do all that properly or the game will mess up on the intros and stuff, once it is installed properly intros should work fine (though they do skip a bit anyways)
