I have been having two problems when I go to load a game in my mod. It says: "Buginit cannot find xml file for mod init" and "Bug path failed to parse mod ini file for nocustomassets"

I've never gotten a mod that I've made to work before. I watched a video in the tutorial section of civfanatics and one thing keal does that I can't is create a short cut in his mod folder that directly loads the mod. I'm running windows 7 x64 bit version and it will not let me create a shortcut where he describes putting it. the only option I'm given is to create a new folder. I believe this is important because putting the shortcut in the Colbertnation mod directory caused a ini file to automatically be placed there (as well as a .bak file).

Does anyone think that may be the problem? Does anyone know how to put the ini file in my mod and where it can be found? Thanks in advance.

Not a problem with a shortcut.
That mod you have uses the BUG mod. The BUG mod has it's own .ini file, and you can change stuff in that during the game. That means the mod has to be able do edit that file. That again means that Civ4 will need admin rights, else it can't edit any files.

-> start Civ with admin rights, should fix the problem.

Thanks for the quick response, The_J, as usual:D. I finally found the .exe for beyond the sword unfortunately (Windows 7 doesn't label things .exe or whatever the file happens to be for "simplicities" sake. I placed the file in ...beyondthesword->mods->Melting Pot along with the Assets folder for my mod, run as admin. and am told:

"The program can't start because BOOST_PYTHON-VC71-MT-1_32.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

This is unusual because the program loads fine outside my mod. Any ideas are appreciated.:help:

You need the game to run from its folder, so in the shortcut's properties (probably right-click -> Properties) you can see something that's called 'Start In' (at least it does in XP. It could also be called working folder or something).
Set it to be BTS's folder.

ok!! I apparently didn't have the shortcut in the mod folder. I had some other folder, but now I have the real shortcut and it loads my mod perfectly.

I still have those two starting problems though. The_J says it's trying to load the bug mod too. Is there any way I can have bug and my mod or do I have to merge them some how.

I guess since bug seems to be the problem, I need the .ini for bug too I'll look for it in the mean time. Since I'm asking for help, I should probably tell you about my BUG set up:

I never have to actually load BUG from the mod menu it starts automatically every time I play. It does not say BUG in the upper right hand corner like when you load a mod. Is this normal for BUG? Do you think I installed BUG in my UNMODDED files thus replacing the regular files with bug files I've reinstalled the game about three times now and sure as day: BUG loads without loading a mod.

If bug is the problem, anyone know a way I can play with BUG and my mod or get rid of bug given my circumstances?

You have all been such a wonderful community!!:goodjob:

BUG did not change any or the original files, but it's installed in an...er..."unusual" way (with view on other mods; not unusual for BUG), so that it loads everytime you fire civ4 up (many users want that).

In general, the solution is still the same: Start with admin rights, if it's not already the case.

If you don#t want BUG in your mod, then you should go your mods folder, open the respective .ini file in that mod folder, and change this value here:
PHP:
; Custom XML and Python from user folder are not loaded
NoCustomAssets = 0

to 1. Then everything what you've placed under My Documents\My Games\BtS will not get loaded (that's where BUG is installed in this case).

You can also in Win7 make the file extensions visible. In the explorer under organize in the left upper corner, there should somewhere in the menus be the point "Hide file extensions if known" (or similar). Uncheck that box, and voila, they're there again.

The_J, you are a god amongst men my mod works flawlessly now. that's right perfect... with the absence of BUG. A small price to pay though.:woohoo::band: I can now go conquer the world as the greatest person ever. Myself!:king: /Tread Concluded!
