i know in my case, i only ever use shift-A when i eventually automate my workers. they don't cut trees.

I am almost sure that on shift-a they will cut trees. What they wont do is change mines to irrigation and vice versa.

i use it all the time, i'm sure they don't. even if they were to, they didn't in the case in question.

They won't cut trees. I have a game with one tree left on a city's plains square and all workers are Shift-A'ed. All terrain has been railed/improved and the workers would rather sleep in a city than cut that tree.
