cant delete the stoopid civ3 folder! HEEEELLLP!!

yesterday i had civ3.exe crash twice in an hour

today i started the game,hit load and then it crashed

next attempt,the game crashed right away after i clicked on the icon,didnt even get the intro,i have PTW version 1.4,not patched

anyways,i tried to fix the thing in every way i can think of,didnt work,i tried to uninstal it(put in the cd and clicked uninstal),to reinstal,but got some error message

tried to uninstal it with norton cleansweep,got an error message
i did 3 of 4 civ3 related files,like civedit.exe etc,but civ3.exe wont die!!!





tried to delete it in explorer manually(to run norton windoctor later to fix the registry thing) got the same error

how the should i get rid of the civ3 folder?




god i feel like breaking somebody

preferably someone that was programming this broken impossible to patch piece of lama crap




help me please!


BTW,the error i get says: cant delete city interface(CRC-error,cyclic redundancy check)

While I understand your anger, please watch your language. If you are going to self-censor (***), why not just leave the words out?

As to your problem: At the point you are at, I would just shut the PC down and reboot. Then you should be able to at least delete the files through Explorer, and clean up the Registry afterwards.

If you look at Atari's support page, there is a FAQ that gives a how-to on deleting Civ3 manually, including which registry entries to remove.

u can go to the command prompt/DOS and delete the conquests folder from there without any problems

in the command prompt type
CD C:\
then add the location of your conquests folder (not the folder itself)
when there type
DEL Conquests

and ur done

thx for the help fellas only i think its a case of fried hard drive... at least partially

the exact same thing happened to me a few months ago

damn my slow connection,i have to leave my pc on all night to download some decent sized files from DC

ill try to format my harddrive,but i dunno how,in xp,can someone tell me?

i have 2 harddrives,my old one(c)primary, 8 gig,that has windows installed on it

and the other one (e) slave,120 gig,that has everything else,or had more likely,its kinda fried,i cant acces some of the stuff i had on there,but it seems like all the new stuff i save there works

i wonder how long it will work

Before you get to far, if you are running XP, then you can run a scandisk on the 'fried' drive. Simple go into my computer, right-click on the drive, choose 'properties' and then 'tools'. Scandisk / check for errors should be an option. => this might enable you to recover some of the stuff.

To reformat in XP, if its a slave you should be able to just right-click on it under my comptuer and choose 'format'. My suggestion would be to format it as a NTFS disk, rather than a FAT32 one. NTFS is more robust and not as prone to errors.

i really appericiate it,althought the "fried" hard drive really is fried

i tried norton disk doctor earlier,now every time i start the pc it takes longer and longer for the verifying file thing,and every time there are more and more files gone kaka,untill today,where the pc tells me the e drive is not formatted,and it can not be formatted either

exactly what happened to me a few month ago,maybe i should get a more expensive harddrive,or a cooling fan for it

ill go dig up the garanty papers


thank god i have windows on the other hard drive

Well, when you get your new drive, formating it as NTFS will remove the need for it to do the checkdisk checks when restarting after an improper shutdown / crash.
