Can't even get onto Internet Games menu

Everytime I go onto multiplayer and then Internet games, I get to the login screen and sign in with my gamespy account I have used ever since I bought the game years ago (always worked beforehand). After I hit login, the game crashes and I have to kill the program through task manager :/

Any Ideas? This has only just started happening, and I don't know if it has anything to do with Gamespy shutting down.

Yes that's prolly the reason, for now if you want to play multiplayer it looks like the only way is via direct IP. You can join the Steam Group made by like minded Civ 4 players to better arrange matches.

The thing is internet games work for my friends who own disk copies of the game, and even if I use my disk version I still crash :/ I'll probably uninstall the game and reinstall to see if that fixes anything.

Are you certain your friends are using the online lobby and not direct IP to connect?

Well it looks like 2K Games have migrated the servers from Gamespy shutting down, so login is no longer needed to get to the online lobbies. All is well and no crashes, problem solved.

Yes it seems the patching to Steam is in progress, though not everyone is getting it all at once. So now you do not need a GS login, you need a Steam account. And as WW has stated please come to the steam group chat for Civ4, the more players we get their the better. Direct IP will not work, but steam replaces that with the ability to join games from a chat room.
