I'm trying to update the driver for my video card, but I don't know where to get them. It's a NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200, and I'm running XP-pro. I've downloaded the most recent GeForce driver from nvidia.com, but when I try to install it, the program tells me that I don't have and hardware that matches its drivers.
Does anyone know if I'm downloading the wrong drivers, or if the problem is with the installation process?

I have a Toshiba Satellite and have the same problem. Best as I can tell from the intraweb Toshiba notebooks (and many other notebooks) have propriatory drivers. For me, I can only load the drivers offered by Toshiba's support page.

right now, I'm trying to find out if the driver I'm locked into runs CIV IV.

I have the same video card, and indeed Nvidia does not officially support these laptop versions of the cards, and any official updates must go through the laptop manufacturer. However the "Go" cards are essentially the same as the non-mobile ones, and so some of the drivers released by Nvidia may work. If you go to www.laptopvideo2go.com, they have modified .inf files for the Nvidia drivers. What you do is download an official nVidia driver, but get the modified .inf file from this website. The driver will then install. Note however that some of the drivers may not work, and may actually screw things up, so do it at your own risk. I'm currently using version 71.89, it's not the latest one, but it works fine with my Satellite M30 with Nvidia Fx Go 5200 64MB. However recently, I tried installing version 81.40, and it caused lots of problems, and I had to uninstall. So if you choose to do this, be very careful.

Thanks a lot, sgrig!

I have a GeForce 4 440 Go from Samsung and had the usual troubles (shiny portraits & blck terrain). Samsung stopped providing drivers for this card by 2003, so my driver version was quit old.
NVidias driver didn´t recognise my card, so I was unable to update to a newer version.
Driver version 81.85 from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ works just fine now. The portraits are ok and I can even see some terrain :D
