Apologies if this has been asked before.

Running Conquests in Windows XP, have the Conquests patch installed. I boot up the program normally, it flashes the mini-screen (as it were) with the samurai, and Atari and all that - you can still see the desktop and all, and...well, stops. No bump on the CD drive. No sound. No nothing.

If I bring up the Windows Task Manager it says that there are no applications running, but if I check processes, it does say that the CIv3 executable is active. I can end the process but otherwise the opening little mini-screen will just sit there, forever and ever.

Annoying thing is that sometimes I can get it to work, but I don't do anything different then the (now multiple) times that it doesn't work.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This sometimes happens to me (winXP). Under the processes list, look for any tmp files. You can delete those. Also, try running the C3C program a few times. Sometimes it takes awhile.

Not sure what you mean by "temp files" under processes. One gets created when you actrually start running it ("~ed1451.tmp" or something like that), but deleting it doesn't change anything in the current executable.

But yeah, it restarted on the next attempt. Although I did go directly to the Conquests folder and activated the executable from theer. Although that shouldn't make a difference and in fact didn't the next couple of times I tried today.

But yeah, I used to be able to restart it after one or two attempts - now it's taking 9-10.

Yes, that, and the other Civ3Conquests.exe process. I'm not sure why it doesn't like Win XP though. Occasionally, it takes 5 minutes before it decides to start.

Still no one with a definitive answer on this? If anything, it's getting worse. I've got tyry and boot it 10-15 times to get it to work. But then sometimes it'll start after one try.

Conquests doesn't do me much good if I can't play it...
