I installed it and everything. the shortcut is on the desktop. but when i click on the shortcut, or goto my cd driver and activate the game, it shows the loading screen and just drops out when it loads "XML".

the game doesnt start. anyone know why?

do i have to upgrade my video driver? my computer plays half-life 2 just fine.

i remember there was a website someone posted where it shows your cpu specs and whether or not you can play a certain game. can someone give me that website again?

Yes. Upgrade your video drivers. It's not guaranteed to fix your problem, but it is the first step to take. HL2 is nearly a year old, so it is certain to be happier with older drivers too.

guys i need some help.

according to srtest.com i have geforce 2500 FX.

i went to the website to update my video drive and downloaded the download from the Gforce/TnT column and installed into my computer. but it still says I have 5200 FX and I still can't run the game.

I'm really desperate for some help here :(

not sure about your specs but it sounds like you "might" need a new vid card..

not 100% sure as i dont have your PC in front of me, but that would be my first assumption.

nvm i got it to work. for some reason, the administrative account i installed on cant run the game, only when i logged on to a non-administrative account does it work for me. what is up with that? thnx to that i lose 2 hours of play time yay

Logging into XP as a non-administrator allows you to play the game? Could you post your computer specs?

um as best as i remember (i use my other computer to play), i have 512mb ram, Geforce 5200 FX, 2.6ghz, some video card that came with dell, and thats all. all of them surpassed recommended standard except for my video card which is just shy of it.

spread the word, if the game doesnt load, try loggin on as a different user. it worked for me!

My game was crashing out after saying Loading XML or whatever. I followed the tip about trying to run the game under another user account. I can now start the game, and hope there are no other problems...

PS. Firaxis, fire those pathetic QA people. If you even had any.

This is very interesting to me...

My Win2k machine (1.5 Mhz Athlon, 512 RAM, 128mb Nvidia 500) installed fine, but when I launch the game, the CD spins, but the hard drive doesn't access; all I get is the "Loading" in many languages screen.

I don't have any other log-ins on the machine, but I *DID* check the "install across all log-ins" or whatever option while installing...

(...also I've seen something about making sure to have 32-bit color depth chosen?)

I'm not at home for another 3 hours, so if anything strikes you as far as helping me, I'd love to hear some suggestions :(
