Can't install.

Hello, I've been trying to install Alpha Centauri but when I click "install Alpha Centauri" it goes back to the desktop and nothing happens.

I have been unable to find a solution to this problem anywhere.
I have windows xp, but I know that isn't the problem because I have had it installed on other computers with windows xp in the past.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try running setup.exe in Win 2000 compatibility mode. If that doesn't work, please post again.

Hello, Just tried running setup in win 2000 compatibility mode and it didn't work.

Here are some more suggestions (to be tried one-at-a-time):

* Try running setup.exe with other compatibility options
* Disable any firewalls and/or anti-malware programs.
* If you have more than one CD/DVD drive, try running it from the other drive.
* Run msconfig.exe to restart your PC in diagnostics mode. Run setup again.
* Copy the disc to your hard drive and run setup from there.
* If you have another PC or laptop, try installing there and, if successful, copy the entire game folder to your PC. I can't recall if anyone has tried installing the game to a thumb drive, but that might be worth a shot.

Also, which version of SMAC do you have (original release, Planetary Pack, Laptop Collection, Sold-out Software, etc.)?
