Can't load saves: "Failed to uncompress game data"

Has anyone seen this error? I see it every time we try to load a saved game on my son's computer. His CPU is a P3-800, but otherwise plays the game without trouble.

We have the latest 1.52 patch now. The error has appeared in the original & previous patch too.

Is anyone else running Civ4 on a P3? That seems like the only likely suspect here. The save files are valid - we can load them on other computers. But we'd really like to get it working on this Pentium III system if that's at all possible, and this is the only snag we've found.
