Can't load the stinking game

Can anybody help me. I have finally built up the courage to try a GOTM. I am not exactly the best at following instructions on how to download intsall and all other kinds of computer gyzmo type stuff. I have however downloaded the gamepacks needed, tried to load the game and got this message:
Error Reading File Missing Entry in "text\Pedialcons.txt": Animname_PRTO_Pictish_Warrior

Please help and in language a 5 yearold could understand. Sorry, and thank you.

i had this problem with my first gotm too...
You have to load the file from the gotm28 or gotm29. Theres a file named pediaicons.txt You have to put that in the text folder of your civ-distribution.

Then you should be able to play the actual gotm.

Hello Mauer, Welcome

The Pictish Warrior shouldn't be affected by the recent pediaIcons.txt file. That just adjusts some leaderheads that don't have any effect until the end of the game.

Since that unit was introduced way back, I think it means you didn't install the full GOTM 21 set up pack. You probably only installed the GOTM 21 add-on pack.

You need to install GOTM 21 Full Pack + GOTM 24 Add-on + GOTM 25 Add-on + the extra pediaIcons.txt file mentioned by Leibniz, in that order. Links to these files are given in my posts in the sticky GOTM Reference thread right near here.

As Alan said, you need to install the graphics pack. The important thing is install the right graphics packs for the version that you are playing (Civ or Play The World). If you have installed them, yet still get this message, it indicates that you installed to the 'wrong' folder. When running the installer, when asked for the install directory, choose the one where you installed Civ3, regardless of whether you are installing the Civ3 or the Play The World version.

Arf, it doesn't work for me :/

I install gotm21 full in both civ & civ PTW directory, but when I wanted to play GOTM20, the game crash (missing text in the pediaicon )

Which text does it say is missing?

It was about a warrior... but i move the pediaicon.txt to *all* text folder and then it's work

But just after, it crashed because of a "settler\settler.ini" missing..

EDIT: Arghhh... i tried to play a new game and settler.ini missed too :à(
I could play before I install those GOTM files...

I think i'm going to desinst/reinstal all civconquest and forget about the GOTM...

I'm sure you should be able to get it to work, as there are lots of players who have. Unfortunately you've exhausted my very limited knowledge of PC/Conquests installations, as I don't have that version. I hope another staff member or player will pass by soon and give you some assistance.

Hi sorky,

If you want to try again, I suggest you do a full reinstall of your Civ game (the 'missing settler.ini.' will most likely affect your other games too )

Do that, then either PM me, or else e-mail me at gotm@civfanatics.net, and we'll try and get you set-up.

I reinstall all: all work.

I patch 1.22f conquest:
- C3C works
- PTW works
- errror for vanilla: "Please insert original cdrom in drive" (it is..)

I install GOTM21:
- C3C work
- PTW needs the settler.ini when I want to create or load a game
- Vanilla has the same error "need CD"

I can't find a link between the Pediaicon.txt and the settler.ini... that's too much for me

OK - Which GOTM packs are you trying to install? The PTW ones, or the Civ ones?

Which directory are you installing them to?

I told it to install in the civ3 directory, then the PTW directory.. can't remember what is the last, i just desinst/reinst and patch 1.22.
I had G:\jeux\civ\Civ3PTW\scenarios\gotm21 or G:\jeux\civ\scenarios\gotm21

(I tried both, one need pediaicon.txt and the other need settler.ini)

Are you playing the French version of Civ3? The GOTM save files use English names for all units, but settler.ini would not exist in the French version of the game. It will have a French name.

Well, I'm not sure if this will work, but GOTM 20 was 'translated' to french. You can get the zip file here.

I think LeSphinx helped with this, so you might want to ask him....

K thx, i will try it. Others GOTM could be translated too?

For now, I could install C3C english but I have only Vanilla in french... it doesn't work together.
Is there a "translator" for turning vanilla FR version to English one? (without buying the english version....)

I will MP LeSphinx for asking him how he plays GOTM ;à)
