Cant play with new mods.

I got the newest version, 1.61.

When I dl a new mod I put in in C: - Program files - Firaxis - Civ 4 - Mod and unzip them there. Then I go into the game and I go to advanced and load mod and choose the mod and the game restarts (i have tried to hold down shift). When the game restarts it stands loading for example init [european union] init XML (unchached). But in the game i cant find any civ or any weapon that I load. How do I make them playable?

I recommend that you consult specific details how to install a certain mod at the forum of the mod. Its authors can usually help you better. As far as I understand from your post, you're doing it the right way...

List a specific mod you are having trouble with. I also have the 1.61 patch.
Please note some mods havent been updated to use the 1.61 patch yet.
