You can't. Only things which might work are cleaning the disc (with a soft cloth, wipe from the center outwards) and trying it with a different dvd-drive.
But it may well be that the Disc got either damaged (scratched) or it chemically degraded somehow (cds/dvds have limited shelf-life).
Your other options are:
* Contact the distributor for a replacement disc. (Don't know if they do this.. As the game is now quite "old")
* Buy it again. (Sucks.. That's why it's best to always make Backup-Copies of your install-discs.. But the game industry is making this hard with copy-protection mechanisms..).
* Get a copy "from a friend"
I don't see how how that was possible.
I have two Civ IV games already... bought new last year at the same time. One is Civ Gold, has Warlords with it. The other is part of a game pack that contains all of the Civ games from the first through IV.
I only installed ie used the Civ Gold game ONCE in order to install and play Beyond the Sword ... mostly Rhyse 3000.
I never had a problem of any kind until my 18 yo son... uninstalled the Civ IV Gold. Not only can I not play Beyond the Sword... but I am now unable ... so far... to reinstall Civ IV Gold.... again... which was ONLY used ONCE.
So.. I was able to successfully install the Civ IV game from the Chronicles game pack and the separate Warlords expansion pack.
I have not yet..uninstall Beyond the Sword.... but it still will not play, even with the successful install of the Civ IV from the Chronicles pack. I don't know if.. perhaps.. the data3.cab file was installed along with that Civ IV. ???? Is that possible?
I'm going to try and uninstall everything... and reinstall the Civ IV Gold and then Beyond the Sword.
My games... are pretty much new. I've only used them once for install purposes, though I used BTS a lot with no problems. But these are like the 3rd or 4th set of Civ IV games and expansion packs I've bought just because of damage problems in the past.
I even still have the ancient Alpha Centauri game still. It played fine on my old computers, but now.. I don't even know if it will install on Windows 7. I haven't tried yet.
