After downloading the 1.52 patch, the game started shutting down, saying too much video memory was being used(even when i put it on low). i tried uninstalling the patch but the game had loads of slowdown so i decided to reinstall.
i had civ installed twice on the cpu, so i deleted one with add and remove programs and the other one manually(at least i think i did-i searched the whole computer for civ 4 and got nothing). The disk didn't do anything automatically, so i udes add+remove to get it started. after it found the disk and started installation, it said not all of the readmemory or writememory was read. after that it says i don't have nough memory and i should close programs, even if everything is closed.

I'd hit SHIFT-CTRL-ESC to bring up Task Manager, hit the Processes tab and see what's "going down". I've found fairly often that even after "closing" civ can remain running in the background. If you sort the processes in order of memory usage you should see the culprit and then you can just hit End Process on that mutha-hubberd.

Of course...that might not actually help at all. If not go for a good old fashioned reboot. You might have already tried that but I'm guessing not seeing as it's claiming you haven't got enough memory.

I have a question along the same lines.

I installed disc 1, then once I popped in disc 2, it froze and I needed to stop the installation process.

Now, the install feature won't come up once I put in disc 2, and I can't un-install disc 1 (I can't find the program on "add/delete programs" to delete it so I can re-install).

What do I do? I want to play!!!

Can I ask what happens when you insert disc 1? If auto-run doesn't kick in have you tried going into the disc and running setup.exe again?

It has the "play" screen come up, then when I click "play" it says

This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

And as I said, I can't find Civ 4 or "Firaxis" or "2kgames" or anything relating to the game in the add/delete programs screen on the control panel?

And how do I run setup.exe again? I'm not good with computers. Any help you can give is much appreciated!

I have the DVD version so I'm not sure what's on the 2nd CD but I'm guesssing you'll need it. To run setup.exe you'll need to put the first disc in again. When it pops up asking if you'd like to play the game just close that box. Now go into My Computer, and right-click on you CD drive (it should be labelled "Civilization4" or something similar), select Open. Now you should be able to see all of the files on the cd. One of them should be a blue icon that says setup. Just double-click that and see if it tries to reinstall.

As for the MSVCR71.dll message...I helped someone else out with this in another thread. Check it out here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=149731

i tried installing it again, and this time only part of the ReadAccsessMemory or WriteAccsessMemory cou;d be read.

That is a Microsoft file.

Follow the instructions:

Use WinZip to extract the file to your windows\system directory.
If you don't have WinZip you can dowload it from: www.winzip.com

Please let us know it that works.

what's a microsoft file? btw, it said only part of a readPROCESSMemory or writePROCESSMemory was completed.:mischief:
