Can't save games

So, I'm feeling seriously ripped off right now. I've been trying to save a game, but for some strange reason the game will not save at all. No autosaves or normal saves, no matter how many times I try.

I've been looking around on the forums (and on the rest of the internet) for what the issue might be and how to solve it, but everything I tried so far does not work.

I've tried:
- Making the save games folder ( C:\[...users...]\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Saves ) exempt from the virusscanner (I use Bitdefender 2018)
- I've put the game's .exe file (in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Base\Binaries\Win64Steam) on the ransomware whitelist of Bitdefender
- I've put the steam application of the game (in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam\games) on the ransomware whitelist of Bitdefender
- I've tried running steam as administrator (seemed rather pointless to me as I am the only user on the computer and that user is administrator but I was running out of things to try)
- I've tried re-installing the game as administrator

But nothing works.

Which leaves me rather annoyed as right now it feels like I threw away my money and got nothing in return (as playing Civilization without being able to save is simply undoable)....

So if anyone has any tips about this problem that may help, I'd really appreciate it... Thanks!

1. Please don't say "you threw the money" away on a product that works for everyone but you, I hate that arguement. Chances are you have a very isolated issue.

2. What exactly happens when you save? Is the button greyed out? Does it not make any save games? Have you validated the game cache? (I know you reinstalled, but validating may find corrupted or broken files)

Try whitelisting civ 6 in bitdefender> safe files> application access. I’ve had that be the issue with several games in the past, including civ 6.

Thanks for the suggestion Daethoron! It works now. I'm not that great with computers, and I didn't realize that Bitdefender was so restrictive that there are multiple levels on which you need to whitelist an application to get it to work. I never had this before with any game, but then again, there are less than 20 games in my Steam library, so it's not that big of a sample size.

But thanks again. I can finally move beyond the first 50-70 turns now. :)
