Not sure where to post this question. So please feel free to move it to the correct section if needed. I have just brought a new copy of Civ III complete. I have loaded it on my computer and all seems fine til I have tried to play the game. My screen just goes black and says 'out of range'

I am running the game on a Mac Mini (will add spec's at bottom of question. And my computer runs through my TV. I have never had a problem switching from tv mode, to DVD mode and to Computer mode. Am I doing something wrong with the game? I am not very tech savvy (well pretty rubbish tbh, press 'on' button and if it's not working ring a friend).

Anyhow is the spec for computer and tv.

What is the screen res and do you have the ini set to default (1024)?

I would check in the Mac forum to see if you need any patch for Mac. I seem to recall they did not have support for years, finally fix it. I just do not remember, if was a special version or what.

Have you found the answer to this? I have been running Civ3 Complete on several different Macs, without problems. I have not tried running them through a TV however. You might want to check the settings in the preferences to see if anything there may be causing problems.

"Out of range" has something to do with the frequencies of the screen that you are using. IOW the game may try to run at frequencies that your monitor (or GPU) does just not support.

Now, with the Mac version of Civ you can bring up a small dialog when you start the game. In this dialog you can fiddle around with settings for the game (this is comparable to messing around with the .ini files in the Win versions). A part of this dialog are settings for resolution, and if I am not mistaken, frequencies.

But don't ask me how exactly it was that you bring up this dialog window ... Try holding down ALT while double-clicking the Civ-icon, or something like that.
