Can't see movies

I have weird problem. I can start the game, see the intro and so on, but my game seem to have problems with playing the bik movies. In several games I was able only once to see the wonder movie. All others were mess of coloured points with crashed music. In about 50% of "found new religion" situations I have seen a black screen, but the music was OK here. The same in the diplomacy screen - the leader picture was einther black or (2 times) pink - here in about 30% cases.
Does anyone know solution for this problem or should I wait for the patch?

I have R9600 XT, 128MB, Cat 5.10a, Dx9.0c.

my wonder movies are scrambled (4 outta 5). Any suggestions?

I found out that if you turn off the "smart gaurd" in the catalyst control pannel and the "VPU recover" it helps. I can at least see the wonder videos now but the sound is still choppy.

My problem is pretty similar.

When i first installed the game i got the intro normal but most of the ingame movies where eighter black or choppy, the music too. But now i've installed the game a second time after a heavy computer crash the game gets thrown too desktop when some of the movies start. Others i can click away just in time too let the game continue.


i can understand that without the proper drivers the game gets problems showing the movies, but i have the latest drivers for my video card as well as the latest Directx and service pack 2.

I have a 3.2 GHZ dual core AMD athlon with a Geforce FX 5900 128 MB RAM.
1GB RAM memory and enough hard disk space.

Perhaps the mode to play the movies helps fix the problem but i'm not so keen on trying it out right now.

Add me to the list of people who can't see the wonder movies. I just bought my computer this year, so I know it's good enough to play the game, but maybe I don't have something configured right.

For the movies, I get squiggily lines of colour on the pop-up window, and it won't play. I can exit out and it won't hurt the game, but I don't get the movie.

To make matters worse the computer freezes afterwards and I get "Virtual Memory Low" warnings before I have to force a reboot.

Is there any way to disable wonder movies as this is ruining the game for me? I'm sure in previous Civ's you could do this, but haven't found how to in Civ 4.

I'll join the list of people not seeing the videos. Almost always choppy or black. Some religion-discovery videos worked, but nothing else much.

768 MB RAM
Radeon 9800 pro All-in-wonder 128 MB
WIN XP SP2
Latest drivers. EDIT: had catalyst 5.10, uninstalled them completely and installed 5.11
Many other problems gone but still no wonder videos.

I can see *some* of the movies, like when a new religion is founded, but not others, like when I make a wonder.

I'm experiencing the same prob. as well. The intro movie will be stuffed (random blocks of color (that doesn't move/change until the movue is over) all over the screen. Once I get ingame tho about 1/3 of the movies will work.

6800GT (at work now, so I don't have my driver version #'s here)

Hi. I have about the same problems here - wonder movies are a pixel mess with stuttering sound. I think I have seen succesfully only the first few movies. The leader screens works about 50% of time, otherwise they turn black (or reddish but that's rare). Some religion animations and history playbacks act the same way. Opening intro seems to be ok.

I have the 1.09 patch but no luck in there. My Pc:

- Asus VIA (KT600-X) motherboard
- AMD 2600+
- Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600 XT
- 1 gigs of RAM

I have the 'newest' drivers for about everything because I fought vigorously with my HL2 glitches some time ago. Currently I run the pc with (reduced) 4x AGP and system seems to be quite stable now. Seems that VIA chipset + Radeon = trouble, heard that from various sources .But that catalyst 4.12 hint sounds something I have seen in other places.. so maybe that would help?

VIA + Radeon? That's exactly my configuration. Catalysts 4.12 helped me, but the game become much less smoother that with 5.10 Omega. Maybe newest VIA Hyperion helps?
