Hello there,

I am still new to BTS, having only played one game so far. Like it quite a bit.
I play 3.13 with the unofficial Bhuric patch too.

So far, I have only been able to build 2 levees. I dont exactly understand the conditions under which you can build one. In one city I tried to build a levee in, I am absolutely certain that there were river tiles within the radius, but the "levee" building did not even appear greyed-out in the list of buildings.

Can anyone help me out?

Thanks much

Hi there :)

I had the same problem when I started playing BTS. To build a levee the city has to be actually touching the river, not just have one in the radius.

It's generally a good idea to build on a river anyway if you can, because with all the extra unhealthiness late game in BTS, you will need the health from 'fresh water'.

The city itself must be on a river.... I see now. THat was it.
It would be kind of nice if info like that were in the Civlopedia.
thanks much!

I think (in the same manner as Hydro plants/the Three Gorges Dam) the river has to actually run alongside one side of the city square. I recently had a capital with two rivers starting next to the city square and heading away from it, which could build none of these. Most annoying!

Remember the origin of the river doesn't count. In BtS the settler frequently starts between an inland lake and the origin of the river, even you see "fresh water", it's from the lake, not the river. You still can't build levee in that city if you just settle right there.

Dike is another thing. It can be built in a city settled on any tile touching some sort of water. Lake, river, coast doesn't matter. The only exception is oasis.
