Can't start the game at all

I got the game through Steam when it was on sale a couple days ago. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall, to no avail. I can start the game, but I just wind up at a black screen with the in-game mouse arrow, and then I can get no further. Both DX 9/10/11 don't work. I've played the demo, so I have no issue running it. I've tried reinstalling DX, but that still didn't help.

Please try first to validate the file integrity via Steam.
If this doesn't change anything, then please change all the graphic settings to minimum, so that we can see if it starts at all.

I've checked the integrity multiple times. It always comes back with errors. As for changing the video settings, I would have no idea how to do that since I never get into a menu,

Oh, i thought it crashed during the start of a new session, not during initialization.
Did you try to disable the intro movie?

Well, that did it! It doesn't skip the intro, but it at least lets me play.
