Can't stop my descent into Anarchy!

My civ descends into Anarchy from Democracy and I can't seem to stop it.

I'm on Emperor level, its the early 1900's an its only me (Persia) and the Americans left. We're both huge and on our own continent. I'm only 4 or 5 techs away from all the spaceship parts, but the US decides to declare war on me. Knowing this I went to the autosave just before they do declare war (I know it's cheating, but I'll call it 'research'), and no matter what I try I cannot get my people to stay in democracy. I moved the luxury rate to 100% and any remaining cities that still went into disorder I forced all people to be entertainers. So even with no civil disorder I still fall into Anarchy.

Anybody know the basis for your civ doing this? I will play it out in Anarchy, switch to Communism, end the war, and then back to Democracy. But I am interested to know how I could have avoided this.

Very possible. I've only started 1 war, but it was a long one vs the French at the beginning of the game. But I have had the Americans, Japanese, Germans and Zulu all declare war on me at one time or another. Perhaps my good citizens don't care who started these wars, only that they have to fight them.

I fight almost all of my wars in Democracy. You have to be careful, and quick, but it can work.

You are into modern era ? then change to communist, produce modern armor, bomber, jet fighter, battleshipe and kick but man!

Sometimes it doesn't matter how quick you are, I've had a Democracy collapase in only about 5 turns!

I think there is a "problem" with war weariness when there are only 2 civs left in the world. I had the same problem as camens when I was a democracy and was attacked by the only other civ left in the world. I decended into anarch very quickly. I went back to the autosave to try to prevent it, and no matter what I couldn't prevent the collapse.

In my case it was my first war (in this game) under democracy, so I didn't have any built up war weariness. But, I did lose a couple of cities which may have an effect.

In my regular playing style, I've never been thrown into anarchy. But in the Tournament games requiring conquest or domination, I've learned that there is a limit to how much the citizens will take, even if I ply them with all the luxuries and an insane bonus luxury rate.

Better to dump back to Republic with the US wonder.

Just exactly how many of your units are left in your enemy soil at the end of your turns? Also, how many units/cities did you loose during the turn before Anarchy?

When the Americans declared war I did not have any units on their continent or in there controlled waters. They had 1 Battleship in my waters and it was the only unit to attack upon them delcaring war, and it was destroyed as a result. They moved another Battleship and a Transport within viewing distance of my continent, but not in my waters. So no units of mine were lost or cities taken, and there were no units in enemy territory for either side.

My civ went into anarchy during this turn before I could make any post-declaration adjustments. Therefore any attempts to stop the descent were made before the US actually declared war (using auto-save).

I've searched this site looking for any information on the causes of war weariness, but all I've found is opinions about what people think causes it. Does anyone know of any hard evidence (through testing or maybe a post by Firaxis) that gives insight into what causes war weariness? I haven't been able to find anything.

According to the book; The most important factor in causing war weariness are stationing your units in a rival's territory, ennemy having troops in your territory, declare war, and engaging in battle. ref. p. 116

War weariness affect representative governement; republic ( less) democartiy( more).
