Can't uninstall/reinstall!

I feel for you. It took me many, many tries to resolve. If you read through the previous posts they give lots of detail on what I tried. Here are the steps I went through:

*Remove all registry entries ( I got a list from support at Infogrames). There are several and some are subtle. I would post them if I had kept them.
*Update the install kernal
*Remove all .inf and .ini references to Civ
*Remove all Civ files and directories (Every time I tried to install, the process would copy the civ3 exe file onto my hard drive and add new registry keys.

Let me know how it goes.

@Birdjaguar: Thanks for your reply :goodjob:

One of your suggestions is to update the install kernal. Can you tell me how to do that and what to look for?
Thanks...

By the way: I contaced Infogrames support a couple of minutes ago. Hopefully I get all the registry files from them...

I cannot find my link where I got the ikernel update file, but I do have the file. I can send it to you directly if you like. It's 1.09 MB.

Finally! I was able to remove CIVIII and re-install thanks to the helpdesk of Infogrames. Great work :goodjob:

This was their suggestion:

First of all, make sure that your system folder options are setup to "Show
All Files", since the folder you're going to be looking for is hidden.
After that, browse to the following directory:

C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information

In this directory there may be several folders, depending on how many
programs are currently installed on the system that use Installshield as the
installer. The folder names will be in brackets and will consist of a long
list of characters. For example:

{978A2104-8363-11D4-AA23-0000E889C4DA}

Go into each folder, and open SETUP.INI. You'll find a line that looks like
this:

AppName=X

Look for the one where X is Civilization. After that, delete the folder
that contains that file, and then run the setup one more time.

Great news! I think that was the same file I had to find and delete to get my reinstall to work. I wonder if its an XP pro issue?

Aggie, on a different note, prior to installing PTW I installed the less yellow graphics mod and when I installed PTW it didn't change. How do I get the new graphics to show up?

Birdjaguar,

I do not know exactly, it's best to ask this question in the creation & customisation forum by the way.

But I think you should select 'Load Scenario' on the main menu and then choose the graphics mod. Snoopy's and Warpstorm's watercolor mod can be selected this way... Good luck...

Aggie Thanks!

This worked! My only question was why was this so hard to find the right answer? Thanks again. This should be a common answer on an XP troubleshooting page!

I can play Civilization again! :goodjob:

At last!!! At long last!! Someone to benefit from my quest to rid the problem from my computer. Good for you drelky :goodjob: I already asked a mod if it would be a good idea to have this info on a central place somewhere. It seems however that not many people have the urge to re-install CIV3. But if they try to do that on XP Pro, they will have problems....

Please help - I have a problem with CIV3

I installed the game, but got the message that it had not installed correctly. It is in my start up menu and I can play the game.
However, I wanted to uninstall it but it does not appear in the list of programmes in the control panel when I ask for "uninstall a programme"
It does appear in the list of files in Programme files in the "Computer" section, under "Firaxis"

I tried reinstalling, but got the message that there was already a programme and that this needed to be uninstalled! The process then had to be terminated.

I want to uninstall as I intend to purchase CIV4

Try using ccleaner. I had the same problem and the uninstall program feature worked for me.
