can't upgrade

I know this has been covered before but I did a search and couldn't find anything...

I can't upgrade. I'm trying to go from a spearman to a pikeman but there's no upgrade otion available. I have plenty of money, have 2 sources of iron going into that city and am not trading any resources away. anyone got any help??

ARGH! dammit I'm such an idiot forgot about that, thanks...

That is why SunTzu's is good in combination with Leo's Workshop...you can upgrade all your units with the barracks for cheap!
