Capture Capital - Split Nation

Does anybody know if it is possible in Civ3 to capture a nation's capital and split the nation up - the way that it happens in Civ2?

Is this even possible in Civ3 - ie. splitting up a nation?

Thanks. That was a good idea in Civ 2 though - create 2 new civs out of 1.

Yes, but it had it's drawbacks. Only happened when there was less than the maximum (7?) civs still around.
