Chieftain
I am not a skilled player. I play for the narrative, the melodrama, wiping away of the smug look on Caesar's face as his empire crumbles around him.
Playing as Venice for the first time, for a domination victory, I found Marie Teresa of Austria an irritating opponent as her arranged marriages eroded my City State opportunities. In the late game I had achieved disarmament at the UN but she was still threatening me with nukes. At the final showdown she was as good as her word and the mushroom cloud rose - I only then realized the treaty did not apply to pre-existing weapons
Foolishly I rushed aid to the area and my workers started repairing the damage. She nuked me again and wiped out my innocent workforce. Now it's personal . . .
Finally she was driven back to Vienna and as my Death Robot beat down the door of her chambers I anticipated her realization of defeat . . .
And then I was told I had won the game. No self-pitying diatribe, no dignified acceptance of defeat or honourable exit. Nothing. I 'played a few more turns'. Nope.
What has happened here that you don't get the defeat scene of your final opponent, the one whose downfall should be the climax of the experience?
