Caveman 2 Cosmos

- some other civ got this tech first but saved the GP for some other purpose (maybe to spread Druidism or Shamanism discovered by me), this made this tech impossible to research but the religion is available to anyone.
This explanation is correct, are you playing with Divine Prophets?
This often can happen, if you can fund religion with prophet.

Actually, this mechanic confuses me.
I usually go straight for Sed.Life., which means I skip all actual religion techs.
Then I eventually get a Prophet (from buildings) and use it to found Judaism (way before it's researched, if at all ever).
But researching religion techs (even when I'm 101% sure everyone is in the previous ERA altogether) gives me NO Prophets.
Can you name me the CORRECT combination of scenario options to be able to do ALL of it?
To "choose my religion" (CHECK), to "found it by prophet" (CHECK), and to "get prophet from researching a new religion tech" (FALSE).
If it is possible to begin with, of course.
I'm like REALLY confused.

Wait isn't it normal to not get a great prophet with divine prophet option on?

Not sure, I never play with divine prophets and I've never gotten a prophet from religion techs, I thought it was a specific feature in the divine prophet option as religions doesn't found automatically when inventing religion techs with that option.

Oh, well I always play with divine prophet option. So I thought it was normal.

Yes, it's been that way for as long I can remember.

Looked at the code, and the free prophet is only given if you play "divine prophets" without "limited religions".
Not sure why its been made this way though.

Are you playing with "Limited religions"?
Oh, cause I am.
Kinda simply in order to not get the list of religions pop up with each prophet, since I never found any anyways (and use Inquisition as soon as possible as well).
So you say I should check that one OFF and then I will get prophets for techs?
Well...

Because on Limited Religions you can only found one religion so unless we made it so that you can only research one religious tech, it's silly to get such a glut of prophets that way. Truth be told I loathe the Limited Religions option myself but the arguments for it are sound from a game mechanics perspective. Still, it seemed ok to require that the nation figure out its own path to obtaining a prophet normally if you're only going to ever use one to found a religion.

Yes, Divine Prophets. At first I thought about explanation no. 1 but then I have realized explanation no. 2 is much more likely :) I think this is a new AI behaviour - I have not seen this in v. 40 release.

Um, hey there! I've been lurking on this forum for years, mostly keeping up with this mod, and I was just reminded that this received an update.

My question is, I experienced a massively frustrating game-breaking bug with the last version: after a while in the early Medieval era, all the housing would randomly stop working, with reason obvious for it doing so. Has that been patched out, whatever was causing it?

limited religions is great on small maps with or two AI. Otherwise AI goes nuts with founding religions.

I made it that way quite recently actually, with limited religion you can now only ever invent one religion tech so that you cannot stop others from founding religions by inventing them all first. All religion techs turns red if you invent one.
I guess I can remove that "free prophet with divine prophet option" limitation from limited religion option. That was a mouthful. lol

Housing needs city size of 6, at least some of them.
Probably you could lose access to wood or bricks or marble at some point.

In Medieval era there is Surveying tech.
It upgrades classical (Sanitation) to medieval era housing.
Some of those needs marble - both medieval and classical housing.

Or you could lose access to fresh water - buildings providing it could obsolete.

Been the case in AI all along that it's possible. The main determination is if they are close to striking range of getting a favored religion, they not only want that but they also want the extra prophet to found the shrine with as fast as they have earned their favored religion. They only bother to hold the prophet if the favored religion tech is within an era away and it's the only prophet they have.

Keep it as it is I think.

No way, What's the rationale for deciding that inventing a religion should not give a religion in any way whatsoever when playing with divine prophets and limited religion?
Limited religion without divine prophet would found the religion, divine prophet without limited religion would give a free prophet to found the religion with, while limited religion and divine prophet gives nothing whatsoever to the one inventing a religion tech, it actually opens the door for your opponents to found the religion you invented for them if they get a great prophet before you.

So you just want to make it so that now that you can only research one of the religions on Limited, you'd still get a prophet when you do? Fair nuff. You make a compelling case for that.
