Caveman 2 Cosmos

Apparently I've become the biggest impediment to the mod's growth so at this point I'm done and stepping down. I'm realizing that my position here is doing nothing for me except to expand an ego problem I already have naturally to begin with, as if nobody knows that. To work on letting go of all things that matter to me in life, I'm going to walk away and try to find peace now. The guys on the discord seem to have plenty of things they wish to do with the mod that will go in very different directions than I had hoped. I think if I'm going to keep maintaining the vision I have developed here, I'll probably have to do it on a new game I teach myself how to program so I'll just do that someday, much like every other someday plan I have ever had. I don't think of myself as old. I found this site when I was 40 and perhaps I wasn't then. But time has accelerated, demands have accelerated, and not ending up homeless has become a dramatically optimistic and unrealistic hope. When I began I was somehow able to live on a part time sales job and poured effort into this like crazy in hopes that someday we'd get it to become this amazing multi-mapped fully galactic game of exploration in the most granular manner possible. I felt it was a duty to manifest the vision I insisted on since I had needed to insist so much on it that I pissed everyone off as I stepped into this role to begin with. But honestly, I get it now. I'm just an ******* who's in the way of progress and always has been. This was never my project to run - it was only the illusion I maintained so as to give my life a sense of meaning. Not that I don't need that somehow but I'll stop burdening everyone with that here. The demon you've been strapped with is no longer going to cast its shadow. Enjoy. Just have fun.
WHOA!!! War Dog what is wrong?! :(

It would be an extremely sad day to see you go Thunderbrd! I hardly ever post here but C2C is my all time most played game and I have always appreciated the dedication, vision and high level of commitment you have put in to this mod over the years. I also found you to be a very patient, articulate person when it comes to explaining concepts or debating ideas, I never saw you as having an ego at all , but rather a passion for where you believed the Mod should go and a desire to share that passion with others. I hope life improves for you and you come back here someday.

Thank you for all that you have done for this mod. Get your life worked out first and foremost. That is the most important thing and deserves all of your attention right now. Whatever time you do have left over, take a break, decompress and relax. Maybe even transition to just playing the mod :D. If and when you get everything squared away satisfactorily and you find you still have the will and desire to work on the game, it will be here when you come back. We will miss you, don't be a stranger.

What IDIOT told you any of this?
Anyways, I wish you GOOD LUCK with Real Life, and I'm NOT losing hope that one day we shall see [Caveman2Cosmos: The Real Edition] coming from you.
I'm serious.

These people celebrate their success of bullying a core member into leaving. They even claim @Thunderbrd didn't contribute anything. The Combat Mod alone was a bigger contribution than anything these two discord clowns ever achieved.

DAFUUUUUU..???!!!
Like, seriously, DAFUC???
Anyways, GOOD that I don't use Discord (name checks out) in the first place.
Not fully incidentally, BECAUSE pretty much every time I tried using it (on various topics), I got BANNED from the server in question in a very short time.
It's quite obviously DISCORD, indeed.
Why don't you/we just IGNORE it, period?
I don't even see much of a benefit using it to begin with.

Well this place is in absolute free speech mode.
That is there are ABSOLUTE zero rules.

Apparently members can offend and insult each other (there is no limit in severity), but someone managed to direct all their "love" towards Thunderbrd lmao.

I left due to CRITICAL mismatch in quality - why participate there if quality of discussions are way higher in other places?
There - facts and logic are optional (trainwreck like this but more extreme), and civic conduct is on PREHISTORIC level.

I ignored that before as on forums this issue wasn't critical, but on Discord it spiralled out of control like Chernobyl.

Good luck to mod itself, maybe someone makes incremental game version of it, since its tech tree, civics, and stuff are glorious.
Looked at mod itself a bit, apparently once a while savebreaking changes were added, as no one tests mod (at least on sufficient level), for example no one looks if option selections stayed same after adding or deleting specific game option.

To put this into context, the second part (flabbert's words) is not about Thunderbrd but about kicking some political troll from the Discord server. Posting it here like this was misleading

The straw that broke the camel's back seems to have been some people (me included) questioning whether all work that various contributors want to do on units should be postponed in favor of Tbird's unit review. His argument was that he's already put a ton of work into it, however (as I countered) it doesn't seem to have moved in years and neither does there seem to be any movement coming soon. I argued that development should be prioritized based on when it will be implemented and how much it would improve the mod when it is, and not based on the work previously put in - basically, better to make smaller adjustments that actually happen than wait for a rework that isn't coming for years more - and referred to the sunk cost fallacy. He denied that this was a fallacy in the first place, and after the resulting discussion (which I was not personally involved in, I will add), he decided to leave.

Also, a while ago he suddenly came with a somewhat weird initiative about making a website and I don't know what all his plans were, but it felt like a whole lot of buzzwords and very little actual content. He got a lot of pushback over that on the discord, with pretty much everyone feeling that the focus should not be on some grand vision of the future that seemed unrealistic to achieve in the first place, but rather on more down-to-earth changes to improve the mod and get it into a better spot before focusing on bigger projects. I think this felt like a major cold shower to Tbird as well.

EDIT: I decided to look up the precise announcement, I'll screenshot it all. No context left out and no misrepresentation unlike the person a few posts earlier, just letting everyone decide for themselves.

Do note that, except for weighing in on discussions, this is the first contribution (if you want to call it that) from Tbird to the mod since at least January 2024, which is when I myself joined the discord server.

Okay this is just disingenuous and manipulative, and you should feel ashamed of yourself.

You can clearly see that Murdermesa is regretful about Tbird leaving, and I can confirm the same is true for most if not all other members of the server, even if we had our disagreements here and there.

As for Flabbert, he was not talking about Tbird at all, but rather about the user DukeWinchester, who had a habit of being abrasive and provocative for the sake of it. I disagreed with Flabbert's decision to kick him (rather than seeing if he behaves better with more moderation, as Tbird was the main driver behind the extremely loose moderation the server had), which is what we were arguing about here, but none of that was related to Tbird at all, and in most places, Duke would have likely ran into a banhammer far earlier.

Of course he didn't 😂😂😂 he just had to get control.

Seems that you guys had a real party and where surprised that TB decided to leave so soon.

Flabbert had stepped away from development a few months ago and started his own (so far not public) fork, with no intention to contribute to the main mod anymore. He returned because Tbird was basically the main admin active on the discord server (after Flabbert chose to go his own way) and it was pretty much chaos after Tbird unilaterally decided to leave.

Let's look at what people actually had to say about Tbird leaving, shall we?

And that's really it for direct reactions. The channel derailed into politics after that because of some new guy (never seen his name before, as a Discord regular) began to stir up a heated debate while throwing out nazi accusations left and right, and it seems other people didn't directly respond to Tbird leaving. After this, conversation turned towards reorganizing the server and making moderation a bit more tight, as it has a ton of channels that are barely used and several people have left over the years because of the extremely loose moderation (which several people did view as a mistake by Tbird, though I myself had no issue with it).

I really don't know why you're so determined to stir up **** and discredit the discord server. In particular considering your lack of involvement in the mod, either on the forums or the discord - well, unless your account is a sockpuppet but that's illegal by the site rules and I'm sure you wouldn't do that. The general reaction of the discord is "wait what the fudge, he just left" into a disorderly attempt to organize things and get something stable going now that the guy in charge is suddenly not there anymore.

To make my opinion clear very quickly:
Is anyone ELSE planning on EVER converting C2C into ANYTHING modern that is NOT auto-limited to last decade's Memory Size?
Yes/No/Who?

So Thunderbrd really left, I thought he only stepped down.
Now that I heard there is internal reorganization, I hope that with better moderation you can now attract more people without collapse into absolute chaos.
Add moderator role that would be separate from dev/modder role, so they would maintain order as population grows.

It's a widely-shared wish, I personally do not have anywhere near the knowledge required to say how possible it is, but from my understanding it's one of the hardest problems to solve in regards to C2C.

Although I think there might have recently been someone on the Discord who had an idea that might be a lead to doing so? Not sure.

This does seem likely, although nothing is set in stone yet.

i didn't celebrate all i said was the facts he didnt code for years, was stoping changes. And sadly with his leaving we will lose lots of legacy. Talking about geting things out of context. Animal

If you want to say that it's been a while since he contributed code maybe you should do that. But saying he didn't contribute with coding is just disrespectful.

If the truth is disrespectful to you, then the issue lies with you. Tbird has not contributed any coding for over two years at the very least (and I wasn't around before that). And yeah, he had good reasons for that, his RL is clearly a mess that he's having trouble getting on top of, and his past contributions were a major factor why people listened to and respected him when he requested that they didn't work one one thing or another because he had in-progress work on it. But that doesn't mean people can't be frustrated at the lack of progress!

And I still don't get why you're so dead-set on defending him in such a hostile and subversive manner (quite unlike what he himself would do, I should add - for all his flaws Tbird took every opinion seriously and responded in the same serious manner, none of this manipulative stuff you're doing). What connection do you even have to the mod with your nine (six before today) posts on this forum and no presence (unless you've got another username there) on Discord? It genuinely looks like you're just coming in here with the sole goal to stir up conflict.
