CBP installation for Macs

Hello all,

I've just started getting back into Civ5 and wanted to download the Community Balance Patch, specifically to play local multiplayer games with my girlfriend. We both have Macbook Airs, El Capitan, and the complete Civ5 pack (i.e. all the expansion packs and DLC) on Steam.

I'd read that you can't get the CBP mods for Macs, but I wasn't sure if this was true. Would someone be able to explain to me how I could get this mod up and running for our MacBooks? (p.s. I'm rubbish at computers in general and haven't ever downloaded a mod before, so please bear with me!)

Thanks,
Tazar

I'm pretty sure the CBP doesn't work on MacBooks, because it's a .dll mod, but I have no idea what that means? I'd guess it modifies a file that isn't accessible on Macs

If you look at the mod folder, you can see that there is a lot of differents type of files :
.xml, .sql, .lua, .dll, ...
It corresponds to the programming language used into it, and each kind of modification of Civilisation need a precise language (so a type of file).
The language associated to .dll use some windows specific functions, so it cannot be read by a Mac.
There is quite probably an equivalent of .dll for Mac, but it would need to translate a huge part of the mod for Mac, and I'm not even sure that Civilisation will allow to use thoses files for modding.

Thank you all for your responses.

So, I've given up with the Mac route and set up Steam and Civ5 on my old PC.
Went to the automatic installer and it says:

Note: if using standard EUI with just the Community Patch (the 'Core' Installation), there's one additional step. Delete the following files from the Community Patch/LUA folder:
Spoiler:
CityBannerManager.lua
CityBannerManager.xml
CityStateStatusHelp.lua
DiploList.lua
ProductionPopup.lua
YieldIconManager.xml
YieldIconManager.lua

This is the first mod I've installed and I don't know what the 'standard EUI' is...do I need to delete this files or not?

Thanks!

Are you playing with complete VP (or anything including CBO), or are you just playing with the Community Patch (so without the balance modifications) ?
In the first case, you do not need to delete those files.
In the second case, I think it only concern people installing EUI without the automatic installer. So if you want to use CP with the "standard EUI", which mean the EUI which was not modified in order to be compatible with VP, then you need to delete those files.

I don't know what VP or CBO means, sorry! I have literally just downloaded the complete Civ5 pack through steam (i.e. both the expansion packs and all the DLC). But I haven't downloaded any mods at all. All I want is to download the standard CBP through this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=528034) thread, I don't want any other mods. Based on this information, do I need to delete those files before I download the CBP?
Thanks

The answer is : you do not need to delete the files.

CBP / CPP were the old names, and because a lot of peaple were not understanding what is what, we changed to new names.
With the new names, what you probably want is "VP".

VP = Vox Populi is the complete project
It is composed of :
-CP = Community Patch (bug fixes and AI improvement)
-CBO = Community Balance Overall (balance improvement, so the core of the mod)
-CSD = City State Diplomaty (make city state more interesting, for exemple you need to build diplomats and send them instead of giving gold)
-More Luxuries (which add new luxury ressources)
-EUI = Enhanced User Interface. This mod exists outside VP, and it is just a modified version compatible with VP.

Most people play either with :
1) CP only
2) CP + EUI
3) VP (Everything)
4) VP without EUI

The part were you have to delete some folders is for peoples in the configuration "2)", so probably not you.

Wouldn't you need to convert it to DLC for it to be usable in local multiplayer?

Correct.

IMPORTANT :
If you want to play multiplayer (even local), the procedure is different, and the thread is here : http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=553187

The last multiplayer version of the mod is outdated, but the next version of the mod will be avaible for both singleplayer and multiplayer :
With the next release, I'm taking over Modpack duties.

G

Usually, there is a new version of the mod 2 or 3 times per mounth.
