Yay! Some good news from the mobile phone front:
Universal phone charger wins industry backing

The days of stuffing unwanted mobile phone chargers into a drawer are numbered — the mobile phone industry has agreed to provide universal chargers designed to work on any handset.

...

Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and LG have all agreed to provide universal chargers, which use 50 per cent less energy than current models.

What will be the next step on mankind's never-ending quest for technological perfection?

Finally, I was actually b*tching about the fact that chargers weren't universal two days ago I think.

you have no idea how great this is. my dad is always complaining that they are just making more than one type to screw us over. But no longer!

aboot tiem

Great. Now will they provide free adapters for all the older phones and bluetooth sets that don't conform?

Universal sockets might be the good next step. No more converter plugs when travelling!

Until I went to the US I had no idea the world doesn't already use an universal socket. :)

I know, must have been rather ignorant of me but then again I don't think it's such an important subject for me to study the world's habits about it. :D

Yeah, you guys outside the US use the wrong plugs.

Yep.

But see my edit...

Actually now that I think about it I realized I've seen a different socket plug in Italy (although most were similar to ours), but I thought it was just a rare oddity for a special kind of device. :)

They have different plugs in at least England, France and the US. :(

One of those things that would cost so much to fix that it never will until made obsolete. Like keyboards. Or which side of the road you're driving. Or the ******** Imperial system.

Yeah as I said it was my own ignorance. I've been to France after the US (and for a very short time), I mentioned the US, and I was simply not aware of England so far. :)

I like our system but I think any is equally fine. Just don't have more than one!!!

I'm a bit critical tbh. I hope that they do what they promise, but I don't expect them to.
