This is much more genuine curiosity than a complaint, if you can call it that, and this seems the right forum to ask it in.

It does pique my intrest, and I can possibly find out why now. In Civ2 we had 'modern', insular Celts for the city list, with cities from Cornwall, Ireland, and Wales filling up the list, but in Civ3 they went with the ancient Celts and put in the list Gaulish and Briton cities. Does anyone know why they made the switch? Or why they didn't combine the two lists of sorts?

Before Roman conquest, I believe the Britons and Gauls were of Celtic culture. Hope that helps!:D

I guess they wanted us to recreate the big wars the Gauls had with Rome. After all it was the Gauls who managed to sack Rome, Sack Delphi and founded a kingdom as far away as Turkey. This was also the period of the Celtic golden age, when Celtic civilisation at its strongest.

I have to say I can understand were they are coming from with the anciant city list, I still like the modern city list better. They just seem out of place by modern times.

The Galataeans were hardly Gauls, were they? They were just another breed of continental Celts, whereas "Gauls" normally refers to the Celts of Gaul and Italy.

Personally, I prefer the ancient names. Especially since they go better with the ancient Leader chosen.

Yes they are.
The Greeks called them Galatae(Gauls) not Keltoi(Celts).
Brennus was an hereditary title for king of the Sennones(meaning man of strength) and is listed as the name of the Chief who sacked Delphi on the way to Galatia.
Their style of dress and military equipment is Gallic as are the names of the three tribes Tolistboboii, Tectosages and the Trocmi.

Granted they obviously grew apart over time, but they're originally Gallic.
