Swordsmen do have a good upgrade path to MI, and then geurilla, but since we are Russians, you are probably right in going hories and chariots instead.

andvruss, I guess I disagree about the Guerilla being useful in any way.

They are nice all round units, but at the extortionate prices it is not worth the time. Who likes to pay 120 gold to upgrade from an attack 4 unit to an atack 6 unit?

Add on to that the fact that you have to wait almost 2 whole ages to get there from Med Ind and you will not use them in defense very much because you can build defense 10 units for the same price and they are very poor units.

hehe, sorry for the rant, but I really don't like Guerilla's.

Ya, I don't like them either, but I was just pointing out that there is an upgrade path for swordsmen, however horrible it is.

1: 1000- St.Petersburg builds temple, starts barracks. China starts Pyramids.

2: 975- i buy writing from celt for 155 @ 4th civ price (as far as we know)

3: 950- celts and babylon are up 4 techs on us and china is up 3. Lusxuries bumped up to 30%

4: 925- moscow builds temple, starts chariot. kiev builds temple, starts chariot. Minsk builds chariot, starts worker. Luxeries down to 20%

5: 900- Minsk riots (oops). Lux back to 30%. I start temple in Minsk.

6: 875- Kiev builds Chariot, starts chariot

7: 850- Minsk builds worker, starts temple. Smolensk builds worker, starts spear. Odessa builds worker, stars spear.

8: 825- spot babylonian settler w/ spear heading deep south in our territory. Moscow builds chariot, starts settler. Kiev builds chariot, starts spear, to go with the settler to beat the Babylonian pair.

9: 800- a barb comes out of nowhere and kills 2 workers I order a chariot to kill it. It dies, but redlines the barb.

10: 775- our chariot loses 2 hp, but kills the barb.

11: 750- a celtic galley sneaks by and drops off a spear/ settler pair.

I have to go right now, so I leave off with only 11 turns. We are basically behind in 5 techs (as far as we know) by everybody. It appears that we will have to go to war very soon......
