Change bonus resources to luxury/strategic types

Hi, I want bonus resources (cattle, wheat, fish etc..) to appear more frequently on the map, and the only way to do this is to change them to either luxury or strategic resource so appearance ratio can be increased. Anybody knows how this will affect the gameplay since these resources (cattle, wheat, fist etc..) can now be traded between civs. Thanks

Actually, you probably will reduce the appearance of them. I have generated a lot of maps using the Editor of various sizes and with varying number of Civilizations. Then I have counted the strategic resources. In just about all cases, for Strategic Resources, the number appearing is the same as the number of Civilizations in the game, with a range of plus or minus 1.

That does not hold true for luxury resources, but those have a high probability of appearing in clumps. I have had up to nine luxury resources appear in a block of 16 tiles if the tiles are the correct terrain. That was a case of 9 elephants on plains terrain. I have not counted the exact number of luxury resources compared to Civilizations, but that does not appear to the the controlling factor. You do have to watch out for having too many of your additional luxuries dependent on the same type of terrain.

Then you also have to watch out for the "32 strategic-luxury resource bug", where if you exceed 32 combined strategic and luxury resources, you start having phantom resources appear in the city resource menus. There has been considerable discussion of this in the forum, and it appears to be a hard-coded bug that cannot be dealt with easily.
