C3X: Virtual Food Resources?

Has anybody tested "resource improvements" that produce food as a virtual resource? I was thinking something along the lines of having a cow produce only 1 food, but if you build a Pasture than it provides +1 extra food as a virtual resource. Not sure what you'd call the new resource. You could do the same with other resources you add such as Pig Farm, Sheep Farm, Fishery, etc. Even have the Granary require Wheat and produce extra food. I was thinking no maintenance and low shield cost (40)? Or does this just overcomplicate things? Maybe even a Small Wonder in early Industrial Era like Cattle Ranch that requires 3 Pasture and then you get an additional food or production bonus.

I have not tested this yet, but this is a good idea.

Is that something that is only possible with a tool like Flintlock's patch? I tried a looong time ago to add food to the cities in multiple ways, but the only thing I came up with was an auto-produced, immobile, and food textured unit (Example bananas) that you could then join to the city to increase population. The unit being "Food". There is a way to confuse the AI into joining the unit into the city but it's way deep into my comments and gotta look it up. I cant remember if I tagged as a naval unit immobile and the join city ability for that to happen.

I dont know if adding actual food output is possible at the moment. If you figured it out please elaborate. I'm interested!

Adding bonus resources and their yields to a city through buildings is a C3X thing only, yes, and said patch also has an option to teach the AI to use population units, such as your food units, properly as well, so you don't need to trick them anymore.

Honestly, it might be at least a good idea for the granary, to prevent it from being a 2fold multiplication of food production. - A flat modifier might be more balanced under certain circumstances. It would definitely make non-bonus resource starts more palatable.
