Does anyone know any cheat codes for the original version of civilization? I have tried using the cheat codes that are posted on this website but they do not work on the version that I have.

Cheats not working

SHIFT + 1234567890
SHIFT + 123456+T

:nuke:

Also I cannot get the hex editor in dos to work. It doesn't work on the version of the game that I have.

any suggestions?

What version of the game are you playing? You can find this when you start Civ. It should say at the top something to the effect of Civ 474.01. The number to the left of the period is irrelevant, the last two to the right of it will tell you your version.

Sounds like you're trying to use the Dos version cheats with Windows. Don't think that works.

a cool cheat that I discovered when I played Civ in the early 90ies was a fast settler trick... eg. when you want to remove a tile of rainforest, to wait 15 turns could be back-breaking... but if you enable "end of turn" option and wait till the settler is the last unit with movementpoints... center the map on the unit and then press the desired command (this example, I for irrigation) and then klick the unit again for cancel the order. The settler will get back it´s movementpoint and start flashing again... choose "I" again and klick the settler again... repeat over and over until you can´t continue (the settler doesn´t blink)... the next turn will show that the rainforest is all gone!!!

this works for ALL improvements... clean pollution, build road/railroad, plant forest, build fortress and so on...

thanks to this trick, I have managed to turn all of africa, europe, asia, australia, greenland AND all the islands outside the continent to railroad/irrigation and railroad/mines....

This is probably an old trick that most people know of... for me, I was proud to find it by myself in -92.... :p

I had no idea about the settler trick! That makes sense though.

The older cheats I read about (shift+1234 etc) are mainly for version 474.01. I never was able to use it, for the oldest version I had was .02. I wish I could get my hands on that though, it would make things "interesting"

I know this kind of spoils the fun of the game, but sometimes I will use civ$ to give myself 20 or so 'non-city' settlers right at the beginning of the game. That way I can build all the improvements in two or three turns, and then move out with my settler fleet to find another good spot for my next city. Sometimes I will even improve the area around an enemy city so it's already done when I capture the city.

If you play cinwin (civ1 for windows)
You can save the same and load it.
all units will become active again, You can order them again.

It is the most cheat.....

wow.. nice trick to save and load:
but if you wanna discover the the world (sea) with 2 triremes+1 militia: navigate the 2 triremes together. When you got only one step with the empty: sentry, unload the another, sentry the another, (the first wakes up with max steps) unload it, and you got back moving points. That's quite comfortable I think (works with every sea/land units)

BTW, you don't need the militia, just the two naval units, they'll wake each other up. Works better with sail, frigate or transports since you can cross the open ocean...
