You might find this interesting, those of you who both hate and like cheats. For a period of at least 5 days i tried every cheat and every trainer and found out that cheats can be great in the beggining but when in the medievil, Industrial, and Modern ages you might notice things like your gold per turn going down, science would be to fast and the game would lose interest, and not to mention to easy. So thats why I probaly other Civization players find cheats are stupid, worthless, and make the game boring.

I agree, thinking about normal game play. On the other hand, cheats may be nice for those who want to find out about game mechanics to test their tactics, and so on. That doesn't interest me that much, so I don't really miss cheats at all. Never used them in Civ 2.

I just used them when I was done playing "seriously". I would just let out some steem and move in and conquer them all! That was civ2 though....... ;)

Me, I had one cheat game in the editor (starting with more settlers and other units (no tanks) than usual, but that was it. Usually I prefer to play a honest (though edited to what I think are more reasonable values for ships) game.

Cheats always ruin games for me except in GTA3 where those cheats are quite nice and add fun to it, like the police tank. :D

I never use cheats, never did for civ1, civ2 or civ3. I'm not going to start now, but I can understand why some people like them...

there's cheats and 'cheats'. Both have there value, cheats for beginners or releasing frustration, 'cheats' (which are often the same as cheats, just employed differently) for finding stuff out).

I sorely miss the see-Map-cheat, especially when I go for a specific kind of game and the Map Generator doesn't do as promised. Also, as long as the editor sucks as it does, it can be sooooooo tiering to restart and restart amd restart to get the starting pos you want..... how much easier would a nice editor make this?

And then, there's AI cheats, which is different rules for the AI from what we were led to expect - and they SUCK!!!!!. Tell me right up front (like the boni on deity) and it's fine, but DO NOT LIE TO ME, Firaxis!!!!

The AI regularly cheats even at Regent; maybe lower too but I've never played lower than Regent. Those cheats are NOT fun to the human.

The Cheat Mode was an indispensible part of Civ 2, along with scenario building. We have neither with Civ 3 which they sold us without telling us of the lack of those features - that's fraudulent.

BUT, the Cheat Mode was good for many things other than just "cheating". With it I could take a scenario AND SWITCH SIDES and see if I could do better than the AI (of course, but it was fun to see how).

With the Cheat Mode if a game was dragging along I could play as the barbarians and basically turn off the map and run ahead a number of centuries; I could also control my own accelerated startup with Cheat Mode. And other things.

Firaxis is so vindictive they even took away the "multi.sav" cheat from Civ 3 with the last patch, no doubt so we couldn't see how much their AI cheats.

And what if someone WANTS to cheat?? It's their game; they paid Firaxis the fifty bucks. let them have their fun if they want. But a lot of the fun in Civ 2 is missing from Civ 3 - a problem that can be rectified by adding the missing features.

Yeah ive noticed that AI cheat. One time i Was the americans and it was in the very beginning of the game when i met the persians they already had 12 cities laid out, reserch much further than me and almost twice as many mililatary units AHHHHH!!!

Killer, the Gramphos saved game editor will reveal the map. You could install the Gramphos tool, then

  • * save the game under a different name (map.sav)

    * load the map.sav game in the Gramphos tool

    * MAP-> REVEAL MAP

No offend but I don't like cheat/trainer/mod. I have never tried any of those. I have no problem with people modifying the game or using cheat/trainer. They can do whatever they like, it just not my style.:)
