This will be a thread to check in and also describe yourself. Your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes in Civ III.

It would also be nice to know what time zone you live in, when you are most likely to be on line, what experience you have in these demo games, and general comments about yourself that the team should know. However, you don't need to get carried away.

For example, maybe you live on the east coast of the US, but work a swing shift. You probably have a different online time than someone working a day shift in the same zone.

I'd consider myself a deity player, even though I haven't actually finished a deity game yet (I've played my current game on and off (actually on, off, off some more, on a little, off a while, etc.) for a few months and am still in the REX phase, on the other hand I often play my SG turns the day they're available). My title is micromanaging warmonger, but that actually describes my preferred style of play in solo games; the first half more accurately describes my strength. You can see my SGs in my signature; I've played in several SP demogames and was on Team TNT in the last MTDG, although I wasn't as active as I would like.

I'm in the Central Time Zone (as my location shows), but I often check the forums at various times in the day. I'll be out about a week for Thanksgiving and about a month for Christmas (although I'll try to get on a couple times a week).

Hello, Im Ansar the King. Most commonly known as ansar.

  • Difficulty Level: Monarch/Emperor Player (can easily win in Monarch and Emperor isnt that hard, but I still struggle in the Ancient Age).
  • Interaction with other players: Im pretty flexible since most people know more about CivIII than me. I know lots of people from lurking and playing in SGs.
  • Strengths: Dont really know what to put here...
  • Weaknesses: Only a Monarch/Emperor player.
  • Likes of CivIII: Graphics. Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and European civs. Not a big fan of the Amerindian Civs (almost all are AGR - too powerful).
  • Dislikes of CivIII: Expansionist Trait too weak. Religious Trait too weak since most people dont care about cheap temples + cathedrals.

I live in Naples,FL. GMT-4, I believe. I dont have experience in PBEMs so I dont know how to send saves and such. Im not available that much because of school, but I usually have time if needed. :)

I guess I didn't write my stuff.

I can win at deity about 40% of the time. I have a SID win, plus I was a member of the Sid Vicious SG (also a win)

I used to think warmongering was a stong point, but after that last MTDG I'm not so sure. I also think I am pretty good at stategic thinking.

I hate all the government stuff in a demo game so if we can keep that to a minimum I'd be grateful. I won't exactly call my negotiating skills great, but depending upon who I'm dealing with I can probably draw on a long term relationship. For example: Scout, Bede, Whomper, guys I have played with for years, I should probably be able to negotiate with pretty well.

I also hate micromanaging. It is a necessary evil and I can do it pretty well. I just don't like it.

Oh, I live in Washington, Pacific Time Zone (GMT-8). I will usually be available. Wednesday evenings the band practices and we usually have two to three weekend gigs a month.

Live in Sweden, GMT+1
Emp-DG level in solos
Still struggling with mm'ing because I easily get bored with it and I'm not a numbers guy
Love the diplo stuff and like think I do a decent job
Thinks strategically over logistically which can be a weakness in war
More builder than warrior
Will check forum almost every day. Ocasionally spamming with posts, sometimes silent for days
Easy to cooperate with but will argue on and off
Like Bugs an anarchist at heart, but I see the need for some structure. The purpous of structure should be to boost team performance rather than government role-playing
Looking fwd to lots of laughs, excitement and new friends

Daghie - you forgot playing the drums and singing in the band (he plays and sings like Levon Helm). We will probably need to set up a pub to play in as well.

Right Bugs, forgot that. So here I am bangin' a drum. Speaking of pubs, I'm off to Ireland for our annual trip to the folk music festival in Ennis. See you in a couple o days

Primate checking in. :salute: I'm NYC (GMT -4, I think). Somewhat erratic hours. Good to be checking in at least daily. No experience with PBEM, a couple of jammin' SG (with one victory in a deity AW game  )Currently play at demigod, but am usually cleaning house by early to mid Middle Ages, so I should switch to deity, I suspect. Can micromanage obsessively until my city total goes over 100, but still haven't gotten all the fine-tuning mastered (e.g. figuring in worker turns as they relate to city growth and build time). Dunno about my advanced war-mongering skills, can handle diplomacy just fine as soon as I get IM working.

Let the wild rumpus begin!

Forgot to mention:

Im a total pacifict. I do not do good in war, but I can always manage to outtech the AI up to Emperor level.

I just dont know how to use the troops I make to kill an AI.

Emperor level (ish)

Played several COTM's & HOF but usually end up going for 100k culture (I doubt we'll pull that off in this game!)

Work in London and do most of my reading/ posting at work at lunchtime (or while my large computer models are running)

I am largely a builder, heavy on the analysis - can do war, until my logistics lets me down and all my troups end up in the wrong place.

I'm standing on the shoulders of giants - dig out the Training day game 2 thread from the sucession game forum - over 2000 posts and the guys barely made it off the starting continent! That thread alone got me from a struggling monarch player to a reasonably confident emperor player (must try DG sometime)

An analyst can be one of the most important people on the team.. Great to have you aboard RF! Last game Tubby was amazing in what he could devine from tealeaves.

Difficulty Level: Monarch/Emperor Player
Interaction with other players: I haven't psoted really alot since July...
Strengths: Building infrastructure
Weaknesses: Only a Monarch/Emperor player. Honors classes at school
Likes of CivIII: fun...
Dislikes of CivIII: Expansionist Trait too weak. Religious Trait too weak since most people dont care about cheap temples + cathedrals.

Hello people.

Checking in.
I´m a warmonger/expansionist, my play level is emporer/dety´ish.
Strenghts: growing, assimilation and domination.

Like: Pumping vet warriors and upgrading, following workers 1 turn road trick, and a couple catapults. I know its the oldest trick in the book, but hey, works every time.

Dislikes: Not growing or beeing able to grow.

Interaction with other players: I always speak my mind.

GMT: look at my location.....i play at night during week, weekends depends.

Hi guys.

I've just seen this thread so I guess I'd better post here.

Difficulty level: Pretty happy on Deity as long as it's not too mean a starting position. I've won on Sid a few times, but only on 'pelago and small continents maps. I've probably played too many games from mapfinder saves so I'm lacking in practice at playing without a cow in the city radius.

Strengths/weaknesses: I think that I'm stronger on fast research goals but I'm working hard on my warmongering skills. Looking forward to getting those GSs into action. Never played a demo game so I'm not quite sure what use I'll be to you but I'm a willing volunteer and keen to learn.

I like to bounce ideas around when playing SGs so I'm not always keen to move on a turnset within 24 hours. Unpredictable RL commitments mean that I sometimes am unsure as to how much time I have to play but it's a rare day when I don't check the forums and make a post or two.

GMT. (Herts/Beds borders for the English among you all.) I sometimes post during the day but mostly look in the evening.

Hi guys,

I usually play on demigod, but have won on deity and sid(GOTMs), although these wins were more luck than skill I think.:crazyeye:

I am a warmonger. I just play AW SGs usually.

I live in Germany and usually check the forums a few times during working hours, so I am around quite often.

Weaknesses : diplomacy (that's why I just play AW:) ) and micomanaging. As Bugs said it is an evil part of the game.

I have no experience in this kind of games and do not know how this really works, so I might ask many stupid questions.
