Actually Qin Shi Huangdi is just his title. His name was Ying Zheng.
Qin Pronounced Chin is the name of the dynasty.
Shi meaning First.
Huangdi meaning Emperor.

I think thats the correct translation.

Qin Shi Huangdi means "Qin's First Emperor"
Shi Huangdi means "First Emperor"

neither are names, both are titles.

chinese normally just address him as:
Qin Shi Huang which means "Qin's First King".
it doesn't mean we don't see him as "Emperor"; it is a short form so you don't have to said 4 letters everytime. if you mention his complete name for a few times in the history lesson can make the class very very borring... :p
